Read that coupon (any coupon). What is the cash value of that coupon? If you want the cash for the coupon, you get the "cash" value of that coupon. Not what you "saved" when you use the coupon.

Is that rounded up or down?

It's always rounded to the nearest cent. and 1/20 of a cent is 0 cent. Unless you have 10 of those coupons, which is why they also restrict the number of coupons you can turn in. Got to love those clever folks.

My father worked in a grocery store in the 50s.

And yes, there were plenty of SCs back then. Only they didn't call them SC's back in those days.

Anyway, they had a regular who would come into the store every week with a fistfull of coupons demanding to be given the face value without buying anything.

When the store refused he would make a scene and stomp out. Then be back the next week and do the same thing. Again and again.

          It never worked.

I did get money for coupons ONCE. I was in the grocery store totally forgot I had coupons on my pocket. Went over to the customer service desk and asked nicely if I could still use them. The cashier handed me $11 in cash, but I think she only did that because the transaction was only 1 minute before I got there, I had all the products listed in the coupons and I asked nicely.

I once had a customer try and get a full refund on an item he purchased with a coupon. I didn't do the transaction, but was there when it happened. (CO= Coworker)

SC: Why am I not getting the full amount back?
CO: That is the full amount.
SC: No, I mean the full retail price.
CO: Because you didn't pay full retail price, you used a coupon.
SC: Yes, but your company will be getting the amount of the coupon back AND now I can't use it again. I want the full price.
CO: But you didn't pay full price.
SC: You'll be getting the amount from the coupon back, and be able to sell this a full price again! So your company is going to have an extra six dollars!
CO: No, it doesn't work that way.
SC: But I can't use that coupon anymore because you have it, so I should get full retail price back!

I don't remember the resolution as I had to help a customer, but seriously. You didn't give us full retail price, so you don't get full retail price back.
And on that coupon is probably the standard coupon disclaimer of, "This coupon cannot be redeemed for cash ." Given this, the difference between purchase price and retail price cannot be redeemed.

This is like my expression when faced with a SC...

                Personal Resposibility

It all boils down to personal responsibility. These SCs are some of the same ones, who will criticize others under their breath for not taking personal responsibility. These are the same people who don't read, don't listen and don't know how to follow simple instructions, yet, they make it through life somehow. Like spolied brats, they demand when they KNOW they are wrong. Fortunately, I deal with and have delt with enough of them, to certainly know how not to be one!

Stop sending me lawyer-talk, I'm not a lawyer.
Not their fault that the SC doesn't want to read the rules. :eyeroll:
