Recently our facilities dept. was doing some work to part of the buildings electrical system. To accomplish this, the had to shut off power to a few sections. Per procedure, IT was notified so we would be prepared.
Thankfully they were just shutting down the regular power, not the emergency circuits that any critical IT gear is on. Both Facilities and IT sent out emails (and hung printed signs on the walls) to everyone who worked in said building about the shutdown multiple times, including the day of.
The the of the work comes around (after hours). CW goes around making sure all computers, printers, copiers, etc. are shut down. They are and they had back to the IT offices. The shut down happens about 30 minutes later, and we had no problems as our gear was on the emergency circuits and are ready to leave when the phone rings.
CW: <greeting> *hits speaker* And where are you?
EU: In <section without power>
CW: Ok. <section> has no power now because faculties is working on the electrical system for the part of the building.
EU: But I see light on in the hallway!!!!
CW: Well, that is one of the emergency lights The power for everything but life safety equipment off until early morning.
EU: HOw the hell was I supposed to know?
CW: Well facilities and IT sent em...
EU: I never read that BS! I leaving and talking to you boss tomorrow! *slams phone down*
Before we leave we walk that section again. We see a flipped over chair at a desk and one of the signs ripped off the wall. One of the workers reported a guy cursing and storming out.
Both us and facilitates guy told respective sups, but EU never complained.
