About a month ago I bought a pair of MX610 mice for about $20 CDN from Best Buy ($60 minus $40 mail-in rebate).

I have been extremely pleased with them. One of the nice things about the Logitech driver is that you can set a different profile for each mouse that you have attached, separate from whatever other mice might be attached. This means I can setup the touchpad my laptop and my mouse differently.

The only real issue I have found is that on my desktop machine if more that one person is logged on the mouse sometimes is jerky and unresponsive. Killing the other sessions always cures the problem.

Since my former trusty Logitech MX700 mouse's left button has went out, I need to go shopping for a new mouse.
      So, any suggestions?
meh. The non techies on CS are gonna think we're nuts discussing a mouse for two pages
Looks like you have the buying process well in hand, but I'm kinda curious - what happened to the old mouse's left button? As my old ball mice faded I replaced them with opticals and the oldest is now (4?, 5?) years old and never a problem. I don't even know HOW to open one off the top of my head - not like knocking down the old ones and reassembling like a Marine with his gun.....

The left mouse button got to a point where it would double-click instead of click once, not be able to drag objects, and now to a point that it doesn't work at all.

Not surprising, really. The left button on all my mice get a good workout, with games and work and all.

Maybe I can get a photo of my old mouse - the wear on the left button would describe a lot.

And I haven't forgotten - I've still got some money problems, but I've also got $20 in Best Buy gift cards coming. As soon as they get here, I'm getting a mouse.

If you can afford it and want a wireless option, you might want to get the Logitech G7 mouse. I have it and love it. It comes with 2 battery packs so you use one while charging the other. Add into that when you swap batteries, the reconnect is faster than when I put the mouse down.

The only drawbacks are batteries only do 10 hours continuous use, and it's really set for gamer precision. still, very nice mouse.

I used to use a Logitech wireless mouse & it worked like a dream but it got old replacing the batteries so I bought a wired optical mouse. It does the job...lol.

FWIW, my pair of MX610 mice have been running on batteries that came in the box for about 6 weeks. They probably average about 4 hours use per day...

Well, I made my choice today - the 2nd gen G5.

I really like it so far. It feels like my old MX mouse, just seems to be more precise & responsive. Haven't tried it in any games yet - I'll have to play something with it tomorrow.

                Thanks all for the recommendations!

Well it IS a mouse designed specifically for gaming. Precise and responsive are the big selling points, aside from the adjustable custom weighting.

Hope you like it as much in games as I like my 1st Gen G5.

I love my Logitech wireless setup. Yes, there is the battery issue, but what I did to save that is that I got 2 4-packs of rechargeable AA batteries and a charger (for 2 mice). WHen the batteries die, I just swap them. The keyboards last a long time with the batteries so I don't bother with rechargeables for them.

Been going over 3 years now with my original keyboard and mouse set.

I was able to try it in a few, mostly the Bioshock & MOH - Airborne demos, and in Half-Life 2.

I really like this mouse. I definitely can tell the difference in response, and it has this non-slip coating that takes a little getting used to, but helps to keep your hand slipping off.

Between that and the wireless XBox 360 controller (my gamepad failed also, and I seen it on sale), I'm all set.
