WordPerfect 12, you officially suck. (Need resume help)

Aright, I was using WP12 to attempt a resume, but I wanted to add another spot for employment, and rather than just adding more lines to fill in, it added an entire "Employment" section at the bottom of the document Along with eating the section I had just filled in, and as far as I could tell, there was no earthly way of getting it back.

So I started over, except this time when I selected Standard Resume from the project list, it opened up some template thing with a Windows address book, and I tried getting out of it, but now when I open up the resume document, it automatically fills in the name at the top as "Mike" and there's no spot for address and phone numbers.

I'm ready to find the creator of this program and throttle them.



EDIT: Okay, fixed the template, but I still can't figure out how to lengthen the employment section.

Personally, I'd ditch the pre-made template, or at best go open a blank document side by side, and copy over what you need. Doesn't matter what you use, templates can be kind of dodgy.

I suppose that'd be better than attempting the template and having it turn out all butchered, eh?

Probably faster, anyway. Plus if you just need the format, having the blank template as a guide for a blank document works well. Done that myself on some things (not using WP12 though). Good luck

Thanks for the heads up, though I still have a million different issues with WordPerfect. If I'd known it was this much trouble, I would have asked for them to install MS Word when I ordered my computer.

Well, I've heard a lot of people swear by Open Office if you're desperate to get rid of WP. Supposed to be fairly similar to Word in terms of operation. Maybe give that a try when you've got the time ( http://www.openoffice.org/ seems to be the official site).

I can't give personal experience about it because I managed to get a good deal on Office Ultimate 2007, but it might be a solution for you, at least for short term.

Go with OO, you probably won't regret it.

I used it forever and a day ago, and it was pretty good then, and everyone tells me it's even better.

I second (third?) the Open Office recommendation. It works great, and best of all, it's free.

I fourth the recommendation. OO will read and save documents in pretty much any format, so you shouldn't have to worry about program compatibility if reading/editing/saving documents on different computers.

I remember using WordPerfect when I was a kid. My mom and my grandma both used to teach people how to use WordPerfect.

But, why not just stick with Microsoft Word when you can.

Definitely try OpenOffice. You might really enjoy it.

WordPerfect used to be reliable, while Word was buggy, but that's changed over the last few years. A couple of years ago I set up some new computers for my MIL's office. She wanted to stay with WP, and I figured it was easier than trying to train her to use Word.

She's a lawyer. Here in California, we still use pleading paper, the stuff with lines down the sides and numbers. I was able to set up a template with the pleading paper. Then I tried to set up footers so she could put the document name in the footer as required by courts. Would not do it. Just wouldn't do it. I went over and over it. Undid the template. Started with a blank. Tried it every way I could think of. Just wouldn't happen.

Well, she was thrilled with the idea that she would never have to buy pleading paper again, so that was a big plus in her book. I managed to import all her old Quickbooks into the newest version. (This stuff was old!) Managed to transfer all her old files. Yea! Got her set up with new printers. Did everything but network her computer with her secretary's and the printers. (Not something I know how to do. Left that for another relative who does that kind of thing for a living.) But the thing that made her the happiest was the incredibly cute kitty picture I set as her wallpaper.

I fifth the Open Office. Word perfect just caused me too many problems.
