Putting a password on Windows?

Of course, BIOS-level passwords can be gotten around, but its harder. Usually.

Considering the only way is by opening the PC and knowing what you're doing in there, It could be pretty safe to do that.

Also, when you set up the XP password, you can also set up a lock out setup, where after a certain number of tries, it requires admin level access to reset it.

I think we'll be ok for now, since my account is the admin one (unless I understand less than I think), and I still have good ol' history to check up on. And we've been thinking about moving the computer into my room, since it's my machine, but my parents are paying for the connection *shrugs*

You know, for some reason I think if it had been a porn site, I would have been less surprised. I've come to assume that most people will be curious about that at one time or another, and the best of people have problems with addictions to it and such. I'm not saying those movies are bad, inherently, but for someone of his maturity level, no. Know what I mean? Mom's still peeved and slightly disturbed about the whole thing. He said at first that "I'd already seen those movies when I lived with my Mom." Yes, his mother is a disgrace to society and did let him watch crap when he was 4, but I looked, kiddo. You came to live here permanently in 1999. The release dates for most of the stuff you searched for yesterday was 2003 and above. Nice try.

Good grief, but I hope he grows some intelligence before he goes out into the world.

I'm not sure what the deal with accounts on my XP is. I thought my account was the admin account, and it's the only one that boots when I turn on the computer, and if I go to Log Out or Switch User, it's the only one visible. Yet when I boot into Safe Mode, there's my account and an Admin account. At least I remembered what the Admin password was.

From the user accounts window in XP, LB, only your account should say "Admin" or "Administrator" GotY's account should be listed as a limited user.

If it's not, blast me a PM, and I'll send instructions in the morning.

If you still have problems, try some parental control software. That should give him a run for his money.

I'm not saying it's inherently 'bad' or stupid crap. It's actually the only watchable thing he had on there that day. But he still knows better. And I told him not to be using the 'net for watching movies and TV shows on, he does enough of that on an actual TV set. And like I said, if he's gullible enough to think I can't or won't check up on him, he's gullible enough to go somewhere or download something that potentially has worms and viruses.

That is because the Administrator account is a hidden one, and you don't see it in normal mode. You can go to start --> right click my computer --> manage --> Local Users and Groups --> Users, and you'll see all the accounts on your system. But your account IS an admin one, just not THE admin one.

I do believe with the "home" version of XP (non-pro). The administrator account is extremely hidden. With XP pro, you can delete it (which I did for my computer).
