  • Gmail/iGoogle/browser issue

Can someone help me, please? I would greatly appreciate any and all advice.

So, I've had G-Mail for about a year now. I like it heaps better than Hotmail or the Bresnan mail (Bresnan is my ISP). However, about a month ago, I began having problems with my G-Mail. It works just fine...until I try to navigate away from the page. When I do that, both Firefox and IE will crash. Without fail. Lately, I've been experiencing the same problem with iGoogle (which is a really nifty customized Google page, for those who don't know. I highly recommend it because it has games and local news and pretty much whatever you want on it).

I'm not entirely sure what I did that was different, but I think it might be something to do with my old settings. The reason why I think that is because I got a new hard drive for my birthday and wasn't experiencing those problems until -after- I'd copied my Internet settings over from my old hard drive.

Is anyone else having this issue, or did I royally mess up something? Because even after I installed the latest FF update, it's still screwy.

Do you have gadgets on your iGoogle? One of them might be causing your problem.

I had a gadget that one day stopped working correctly and I had a lot of issues navigating iGoogle or even loading it or trying to get away from it.

It's just a guess. Someone might have a better idea than me.

I do have quite a few of the gadgets they offer. Most of the ones I have are games...though, now that you mention it, the trouble I'm having with iGoogle -did- start right around the time I installed one of them- Flood It.

Disable FloodIT then, that's likely the issue. I believe they market the addons as "use at your own risk", anyway -- for reasons like this. Try disabling one gadget at a time until the crashes stop. The last one disabled is the culprit, so just reactivate the others.

Argh. x.x; Problem is still occurring. This time, though, more and more of my apps seem to be freaking out. Should I just clean-slate my iGoogle page and start over from scratch? Also, my GMail problem persists as well.

Couldn't you just press the classic google option and see if the problem stop? If not it's something else and you can keep your iGoogle.

Have you run some virus scanners lately? The creeping corruption sounds like either a virus or something wrong with iGoogle itself.

I did try that last night. Classic Google page worked just fine and didn't give me a crash/error message when I went away from it.

Yeah, I have AVG and it does a check everyday. It hasn't turned up anything so far, though. However, given that the Classic Google page didn't give me any trouble, I'm thinking it's a problem with my iGoogle/G-Mail account. Any idea who I can write to about that?

I checked out Gmail's help, and while a lot of people are having the issue, no one's found a solution.

Go to http://mail.google.com/support/bin/s...nown_issues.cs and on the bottom of the page, you'll be able to send them an email. Don't expect much though.

                    It...er...fixed itself?

Somehow, my G-Mail page is cooperating today. I was able to navigate away from the page without it crashing my whole browser. I didn't do anything different, except that I reinstalled the G-Chat function yesterday. So either -that- fixed it somehow, or the people at G-Mail did some maintenance finally.

                    Either way, I'm happy.

Very yay. Now if I could only figure out exactly what fixed it. xD
