    Well, I could repair it for $400 and still have the biggest thing I hated about it, or I could get a new one for ~$800 that outperforms it without the overheating. I think you know where I be going with that train of thought.

    Pretend there's something here that sounds insightful, but is really just some pseudo-intellectual bull.

      If it's been doing the overheating thing from the beginning -- yeah, they shipped you a defective unit, it's been bad all along >_< There is no reason whatsoever for a lappy to heat up to forced-shutdown levels out of the box. That's a manufacturing defect.

      Did they refuse to replace the unit, or was an inquiry simply never made?

      And yeah, getting a new system is probably yer best bet at this point.

        Inquiry was never made. I've actually heard of a lot of HP units with the same problem.
