  • Blue screen of death!

So I hope no one is getting sick of me asking for computer help on here...lol....

Anyway my computer (Windows 7) just started displaying the blue screen of death today. I never get to read the whole damn thing, but its really long, with a long explanatory paragraph going on about stuff i don't have time to figure out because I can never read it. This happens every time I start the computer, unless I boot in safe mode.

When I do boot in safe mode a window pops up telling me I had an error, and it gives me this message:

    ---------------------------------------------------------
    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
    OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
    Locale ID: 1033

    Additional information about the problem:
    BCCode: 116
    BCP1: FFFFFA8007A61010

    OS Version: 6_1_7600

Also, about a week ago my wife had an issue with her gmail account where it started sending out mass amounts of spam to people, including text messages to cellphones we had previous communicated with.

My first thought was some sort of malware, but malwarebytes and avast haven't found anything.

I'm hoping its just some random glitch that will clear itself up. Of course I doubt that very much.

Any thoughts? Advice? Tips? Suggestions? Prayers of hope?

    Thanks!

If you can boot to Safe Mode with Networking and upload a few of the latest .dmp files from C:\Windows\Minidump\ I can check them here and see if they report anything similar. If so we'll know what causes the BSOD.

There's four of them. I didn't even know how to open them.

Just finished another malware scan and gonna reboot again and try out normal mode. I don't know why.

Sorry, I'm about to fall asleep over here so I'll just post this and let someone else help if you can't figure it out from here.

Aha! Uninstalled the video drivers and it booted up fine. Then windows automatically searched for and reinstalled. I guess it seems to be working.

Edit: Of course, after reinstalling the video drivers, the problem came back. At least we're narrowing it down right!?

Awesome. Now maybe the driver is corrupted. Try uninstalling again, but next boot don't let Windows reinstall it. If it does it automatically, disable then uninstall the video device. Now you can search for a fresh copy of the driver, possibly a more updated one. If you need help, post model number of the video card. If it doesn't say the make and model of the video card in Device Manager, then open the device's properties, go to the Details tab, and choose Hardware Ids under Property. Look for DEV_XXXX -- I need the four XXXX characters.

The problem appears to have been solved but I can't remember exactly what I did lol...anyway the one difference I'm noticing is under the Device Manager, where it formerly listed my video card as "NVIDIA GEFORCE 6150se nforce 430", it now has added the line "Microsoft Corporation - WDDM" after it. I'm guessing I finally managed to find the right driver.

I suppose your wife changed her email password?
Now the trouble about trying to make yourself stupider than you really are is that you very often succeed.
