    The freezing trick worked for me as well on an old hard drive I had that crapped out on me. However I had to use disk recovery software to access the data as my computer wouldn't recognize the drive and allow me to access the data directly.

      I like to use "puppy linux" it a live linux Cd, because linux has the wonderful ability to ignore windows file permissions, I reformated my comptuer once and found out that my "backups" on my external were locked to the old username on the computer. but I just recopied the files minus permissions.

      I also agree with try the freeze method but be quick and pull the most important data fast.

      Um, this reminds me I need to do a backup, I havn't done it in months but really I don't have to much that is "important" these days,
      I'm sorry reading is not a new concept it has been widely taught in our nation for at least the past 100 years. Please, learn to do it CORRECTLY before you become contagious.
