AIM and IE question

So I upgraded my AIM to the new version because it's been warning me for several days that I will soon no longer be able to use the old. As far as I can tell it updated fine. It installed the AIM toolbar in Internet Exlplorer, but I disabled that (I don't like toolbars cluttering up my window, and I found it distracting).

Now the weird thing...used to be when I opened a new tab in IE (I have IE8) it gave me a page (with the address "about:Tabs") with some links to recent pages I've visited and stuff, and I could restore the last browser session from there (finding it hard to describe, now that I can't see it), but now all of a sudden it's just giving me a little explanation of Tabs with no links or anything. I don't see how that could be related to AIM; maybe it's just a coincidence (I hadn't opened a new tab before I did the upgrade so I don't know if it was doing it earlier). I looked in the settings and that setting hasn't changed.

It's just weird, and I can't ask my dad about it until Tuesday. If anyone has any thoughts, I'd appreciate it.

Does the address bar still read "about: Tabs"?

Try changing the Tabs settings to open "a blank page", open some tabs, then change it back to "the new tab page".

Hmmm...that didn't work.

And when I started up the computer just now it came up with the same message that I need to update...maybe something to do with Trillian? ..guess I'll just wait until my dad gets home and have him look at it.

Try this:

Open up the Tools menu and select Internet Options

One the new window, go down to Tabs and hit the Settings button.

Look for a clickable option that says "Open home page for new tabs instead of a blank page" and mark it.

Hit OK a couple times to return to the browser.

See if that fixes the issue.

I've used Trillian before. Pretty nice. I currently use Pidgin, but it doesn't support Video Chat features (which is fine since i don't like that feature).
