Spoke with her a few hours back. Turns out her ISP left her a voicemail and it seems that when she got a new debit card from the bank, the standing order to pay the ISP hadn't been transferred with everything else. She's back online now they've got their money.

She's very grateful for assistance rendered, but it turned out to be bank error not in her favour

Gotcha. Normally I'd think a letter would be sent first, or even that changing a debit card wouldn't require changing accounts as well. Let's call this one a bank fail.

FWIW, I looked up what the V-numbers actually mean.

      V.32bis allows 14.4kbps. (Original V.32 was 9600.)
      V.34bis allows 33.6kbps. (Original V.34 was 28.8k.)
V.90 and V.92 both allow 56kbps, with V.92 having faster startup and some extra features.

Sorry, I haven't done it on a Mac in so damn long that I'm really glad someone else could supply that info. I know it USED to bandaid some dialup issues, but...yeah, it's been a ridiculously long time.

With a side of ISP fail.

My ISP sends me an email the moment my account is past due with a threat to cut me off if I don't remedy the situation in the next few days. This only happens when I inadvertantly have too much on the charge card when the bill date rolls around, and I just pay with my bank card instead.

She received a voicemail two months after it was due, but they cut it off at that point as well.

Shrug - their credit control department must have different priorities.
