The screen on my laptop has broken. How much would it cost to get it fixed/replaced?

It's a Dell laptop with an LCD screen, if that helps.

How is the LCD screen broken? Is it cracked? If so, the entire LCD screen needs to be replaced.

If it's the video card overheating, then the motherboard needs to be replaced.

If it's not one of the above, describe how it's broke and I'll check forums off and on over the next few days and try to give some advice.

If the machine is fairly new, you may want to call Dell and see if it's covered under warranty.

The screen is cracked. Luckily, it has an adaptor so I can attach my desktop moniter to it. That will be nice until I can afford to get it repaired.

        The model # is PP41L

Off topic: Cheryl Wheeler & Janis Ian wrote a song about that phenomenon: "Orbiting Jupiter" (just like this site).

Depending on the specs of your Laptop and if it is out of warranty you might be better off buying a whole new laptop. This is because at least a few years ago when my sister was having problems with her laptop. For them to look at it out of warranty was $200, With a $300 charge for each additional instance of a problem where monitor, keyboard or harddrive needs to be changed.... yes it was gonna cost $500 AT least for a laptop that was 3-4 years old and cost $700 NEW.

I have a inspirion 6000 with a bad screen, when I looked it up online It was at least $100 if I were to replace it myself. To me it wasn't worth putting that into a 5year old laptop, I just use it as desktop/
I'm sorry reading is not a new concept it has been widely taught in our nation for at least the past 100 years. Please, learn to do it CORRECTLY before you become contagious.

Can you please post the service tag.

Looking at the model it looks like you have a 15.6" screen. Assuming only the LCD/backlight needs replaced and no extra plastics or hinges etc you are looking at about £80 for the part.

Dells are usually pretty easy to replace screens as long as you are gentle and have a clean working area ( even kitchen table) it should take less that an hour and is well worth trying yourself if you don't want to pay for someone to replace it for you.

I found a site that lists the Dell PP41L LCD screens for pretty cheap.

                  http://www.screenaid.com/advanced_se...?keyword=PP41L

                  Hope this helps!
