  • My dog mistook my smartphone for a chew toy.

Well, the dog is still in one piece but the phone is kaputt. From some research I did, it will be cheaper to replace the phone than to repair it. It's a no contract phone so at least I'm not stuck paying for a paper weight. From doing some research on the web, it looks like it would be cheaper to replace it than repair it.

My question is this: would it be possible to remove the sim card and sd card and put them in an unlocked phone or should I just get another T-mobile no contract phone?

Finances are pretty tight right now so I'd rather not be locked into a contract. It will probably be some time before I can replace it unless I put it on my Bestbuy card.

So far as I know it should be possible. As long as the SIM Card is intact and the new phone can accept it it should be fine.

That said, I'm a Canuck which might have different rules and had very little dealing with cell phone tech so take everything I said with a huge grain of salt.

T-Mobile's phones typically have swappable SIM cards. That shouldn't be an issue. The only concern would be what LordLundar pointed out. Is the SIM card still intact? If it is, just put it and any microSD card your old phone might have into the new phone and you'll be good to go.

Most SIM cards do. Alternately, check with your provider and they may even be able to let you keep your current number if you need a new SIM card. The only general rule of thumb I've found is that if it was a prepaid number (i.e. set amount of talk, text etc.), it can't be transferred over to a post-paid (i.e. pay off an amount per month) number.

Thanks all. At least this time I hadn't added any minutes beforehand. That's usually my luck. I'll add minutes to the phone and two days later, I'll wash it or try to flush it down the toilet. Or I'll just plain lose it.

I'm just glad it's not a total loss. I'm not so worried about the games. I can always download those again. It's the pictures I didn't want to lose. Especially the ones of my nephew and let's not forget the phone destroying mongrel.
