Let me start off by saying I am NOT a computer tech...
In my admittedly limited experience, when a computer starts doing random wonky stuff like that, it has always (so far) been traced to an overheating problem in some temperature sensitive part of the works (usually CPU, though in one case the RAM). I can't say for sure that's the underlying cause of your problems, but it is one potential thing to check for. You're only delaying the inevitable, you run at your own expense. The repo man gets paid to chase you. ~Argabarga

Is this a laptop or a desktop you have? Desktops are easier to work with since you can taken them apart and put them together more easily than a laptop, which is still possible but tricky. If it's a desktop try the following:
Shut down the computer. Boot it back up, and as it's booting, insert a CD or DVD into the drive, close it, and see if it spits it back out before the operating system starts up (to the Windows log in screen or Mac Desktop). Do you know how to get into the BIOS or select a startup disk? Usually it involves pressing F12, Delete or some other key repeatedly so that it doesn't go to the welcome screen yet. You may have to check your owner's manual for this, but sometimes when booting up, there will be something on the screen that says "press F12 for BIOS" or something similar.
If you can get to that screen and the CD/DVD stays in the drive, then it might be something while in the operating system that might be causing it. If you get to that screen and it still spits out the media before you get into Windows/Mac, then it may be an issue with the hardware.
If you know someone who can replace the DVD drive (a small, easy task) have them swap it out for another drive and see how it behaves to determine if it's the drive itself or something else. Older drives might have an IDE interface (long rectangle with lots of pins), but the newer drives will have a SATA interface which is a smaller port.
