Anybody to know how to solve this?

My firefox does not allow me to change the way to handle downloads like pdfs and epubs. It did it earlier, saved pdfs without questions - now it keeps on asking if I want to save them (default) or open in reader. But I can't set it automatic, the box is grey. So when I load epub, it wants to open it (default) but I want it saved. Again can't set it automatic, box is not in use.

Pictures and zip-packets it downloads normally, zips automatically to folder.

Firefox 11.0 (just updated from 10) and Windows 7.

Are you doing a right click and then selecting save as? or Just left clicking on the link?

Just clicking the link. The page I'm at asks captcha verification and I thought I can't use right-click with them.

Edit: Just checked it out, you can't right-click there.

Most readers have a save option once the file is open, you can chose to save it somewhere.

To change how firefox handles the file you go into Options, then click application at the top, look in the list for pdf and you can change from an application to save file.

Okay, there was two pdf-applications, and I changed other to "save file" and it seems to work out perfectly, but how do I change e-pubs? There is no such extension.

Are you using the Epub reader firefox add on? or a separate application for your epubs?

Calibre portable. It shows up in download-window as executeable program.

So you are getting a window for epubs that lets you chose Download or Open with (see pic) options.

Is the "do this automatically" check box greyed out so that you can not select it? If so the server you are downloading from is most likely at fault. This is caused because the server mistags or misconfigures the file extension type (ie: firefox doesn't know what to call this type of file so it can't save the action)

The easiest way to change this if there is no epub file type already in your Applications list in firefox is to download an epub file from a different site so it lets you chose the "do this automatically" check box.

I would recommend: http://www.epubbooks.com/ - download any random book and see if it lets you choose the "do this automatically" option.

Otherwise the fix is a fairly complicated process

Also, whenever you have a download-able item like that, you should be able to hold the option key and click on it, and it should automatically start downloading without asking you if you want to launch/open it or save it.
