  • Now, it's the printer!

I finally bought ink for the printer I bought (used) two years ago. I've inserted the ink cartridges. The printer is on. The USB cord is plugged in.

    And the fucker won't print.

Pressing buttons on the front DOES cause help windows to pop up on the computer monitor, so there IS connection here. I'm in the process of downloading the driver (I bought the printer used, though only a few months old). I AM able to print a test sheet, by futzing around with the buttons on the front.

    Active Connection Type: None
    Network Status: Offline
    Link Configuration: None

    Any thoughts on the matter?

Well, installing the driver usually helps. If it doesn't, start giving more detail about these error messages, and the make/model of the printer.

Error 2732. Evidently, it comes from trying to install downloaded software, rather than reading it from a CD. It's an HP 3210 All-in-One.

I googled it and the first suggestion was to uninstall and reinstall the Adobe Flash player. Before doing this, see if you can install the drivers on another computer and also hook it up to another computer first. f you get the same error, it's most likely something to do with the printer. Sometimes when installing the drivers, you have to have the device connected, but other times you do not. I have experienced some installs where you're instructed to connect the device at a specific time as instructed by the software (right at step 4, right after step 8, etc).

It's working! As I type, the printer is shaking the table doing a print job.

HP offers this Print and Scan Doctor. I downloaded it, and it found a problem with the driver; seems that not all the components were there. It suggested that I download the software (AGAIN!), then uninstall the previous software, then reboot, then reinstall.

So I did. It took me a little while to find the new software download, but when I did, I ran it, followed the instructions, and now, it works. I only wish that HP hadn't insisted I save it on the C drive, though.

Woo hoo! My next suggestion would have been sprinkling holy water on it while chanting, "The power of Windows compels you.. the power of Windows compels you.."

This thing REALLY eats the yellow ink. I wonder if I can buy a refill kit.

Considering the ink is a consumable, you are probably not able to get a refill kit that will work. Most of the more recent printers and ink have a chip in them to detect the age of the ink, fill level and other such information. That company is pretty tight on their chips being in them.

I would like to believe that most printers, if not all of them, have the ability to only print out in black and white, or grayscale. If you're not needing a lot of color documents, you can hit Print when you're ready, then hit "Preferences" somewhere on the same screen, and there should be an option to print out in non-color. Check your owners manual for that. This should save a little $ on the yellow ink.

That's one of the reasons I bought it; it prints in color. I don't plan to spend a lot of time printing images, though.
