  • Website help!

My Aunt is starting up a business and has tasked me with setting up her website. The problem is that I am not *remotely* competent with this sort of thing and I told her that I can maintain her site (meaning I'm willing to update info/pictures etc. but nothing technical) if she gets one set up. She then had her son set up a website account with Netfirms and we ended up creating a website but it is not at all what is needed/wanted. It's easy enough to figure out but the templates are not what she is looking for (her business is for baby clothes/accessories and she's hoping for that kind of feel).

I know that there are a few that create websites here (or at least are very familiar with this) so any advice would be awesome! What she is looking for is something that is easy to set up/use and has a more artistic look to it. If anyone knows of a good website to use or can actually create something please let me know!

Is this fully ecommerce? As in ordering online?

That really needs something more dedicated as it would require some sort of proven support in case of hacking attempts and the like.

If you're just talking about displaying wares and 'contact me' then that should be easier for people to find for you.

At this point it's more of a display of wares sort of thing. Eventually she'd like to be able to order online but for now it's more of a portfolio of sorts.

Set it up on facebook. Easy. Or Blogger or some similar service.

I work part-time for a company that is doing pc repair& support/web hosting and design, in addition to my day job.

here are the quick and easy tidbits on the top of my head.

          1) please make sure you have a FQDN(fully qualified domain name), there is nothing that says you are not taking a business seriously that babystuff.tripod.com. you get the idea.
          2) Is she wanting to set up an ecommerce site with a shopping cart or is she wanting to sell on ebay and have a site that points to her ebay stuff? How is she selling?
3)please pay for a hosting plan, even if it is the cheapest one, nothing drives people off that a site that is covered in ads by the hosting company because you decided to get the free account, that also takes away ad revenue from you is you decide to carry ads.

If you have more questions please pm me and I will be happy to help.

          thanks

When looking for a hosting company (a company that reserves the server space for your web code, pages, graphics, videos, etc), see if they have any templates that might help. It would still help to try to learn a little HTML or CSS coding though.
