Let me take the gentle reader back to the events of the 19th July 2007. I'm only relating this tale due to the fact that the place has now gone. Please be kind when judging me on this, for I was remarkably entertained. This is all taken from the thread in the moderation section.
I received that in email. I was somewhat bemused, since I get occasional offers for me to profit from the site, but this one was different. I checked the name he gave (oddly enough not in asterisks) and the email address he used and found a site.

*blink blink*
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Outright thievery is ... not that pleasant. The same software was running the forum, the same skin had been chosen, a branding fee had been paid to remove the copyright information, but there were differences. He had an ugly banner that was too wide for the screen and stretch my browser (on full screen mode) to about twice its width, and there was advertising.
More importantly, the forum had pretty much the same names for the sections, and the site rules were a cut and paste job with names of site and site owners altered.
Once the cursing had stopped, I realised that this had amusement potential. It was clear that the owner didn't have full knowledge of what he was doing. There were several extra sections that would dilute the site badly, and the whole ethos of the place was ... just wrong.
Within seconds I realised he'd also copied Ree's "What makes a War Story", as well has copied the Site Rules to two sections on his forum. Why? I only had as much idea as he apparently had.
It was pretty obvious that he wanted members to get advertising revenue, so I made sure the moderating team knew what was going on and there were blinks all round.
A little later that evening, I got another message.
Well, he was eager. This came from a member profile while I was tracking his server IP - forbidden message suggested a shared hosting server (his site was slow as it was).
I gave into temptation and replied.
I went to bed at this point and awaited results with a grin.

Hi Raps,
Please get in touch with me when you can.
I have a proposition for you regarding www.customerssuck.com
I'm working along similar lines myself and would really like to talk
to you about some future plans for development and a possible business
opportunity.
If you are interested in hearing more about how we might both
financially benefit from these projects please contact me asap.
Yours Sincerely,

Hi,
tried to get hold of you earlier by email.
Thought I'd try this way instead.
Would very much like to talk to you Raps.
Guessing you may have a clue by now about what.

Considering that I run customerssuck.com out of my own pocket and don't accept money from adverts or sponsorship to run the site, I'm trying to see what there is in it for the me or the community.

I run customerssuck as a hobby, not as a business.

Tell you what, when you remove all texts from ******** that were lifted wholesale from customerssuck.com, such as site rules, GTG rules, War Stories ('asked a lot' - yeah, right...), then we'll talk. Until then, I have no reason to take you seriously.
My google-fu is strong.
