  • [GAME] Favorite Song Lyrics: 2016 Edition!

Since the last version of this thread is now 4 years old, and was never moved to the Forum Games Forum, where it belonged, it's time to start a new one!

As usual, this thread is for sharing your favorite song lyrics (or poetry, as they're basically the same thing, anyway.)

I'll start off with what has sadly become the Theme Song for 2016 in my mind...

"Who Taught You How to Hate?" by Disturbed
I hear the voices echoing around me,
angered eyes that don't even know who I am,
    looking to kill again
    (They will kill again)
As the unknown enemies surround me,
wicked laughter resonates inside my head,
and I am filled with dread
    (and adrenaline)
What did I do? Why do I deserve this?
    So we're different,
why do I deserve to die now?
    Give me a reason why

Then it all goes a blur,
    let instinct take flight
Find my hands on his throat,
    yet hear myself say...

Tell me now, who taught you how to hate?
Because it isn't in your blood,
not a part of what you're made
    So let this be understood,
somebody taught you how to hate
When you live this way, you become
    dead to everyone

A father's pride, my son walking beside me
I look around and marvel at the children playing,
    in perfect disarray
    (So innocent)
    No judgement, pure exhilaration
Black to white, the colors aren't on their minds,
    nothing predefined
    (All different)
There's always one who plants an evil seed, and
preaches fear to pull you to the other side,
    into a world of lies

Everything is unsure when you've lost your sight
Can there still be a cure?
    What made you this way?

Tell me now, who taught you how to hate?
Because it isn't in your blood,
not a part of what you're made
    So let this be understood,
somebody taught you how to hate
When you live this way, you become
    dead to everyone

    (You're not anyone)
    Oh

    Lost all innocence,
    infected and arrogant
    You burn all your life
    (There's no telling you)
    No deliverance,
    consumed by the pestilence
    of hate, you're denied
Deep in your heart, does it still remain?
Do you think you can bring it
    back to life again?
Is it still in your soul?
    (No saving you)
    Where's the deviant,
    the unholy revenant
that has made you this way?
Made you fall for this hate

Tell me now, who taught you how to hate?
Because it isn't in your blood,
not a part of what you're made
    So let this be understood!
Somebody taught you how to hate
When you live this way, you become
    (You become)

Tell me now, who taught you how to hate?
Because it isn't in your blood,
not a part of what you're made
    So let this be understood!
Somebody taught you how to hate!
When you live this way, you become
    (you become)
    dead to everyone!
    (You're not anyone)
Have fun with the new thread, be excellent to each other, and PARTY ON, DUDES!

2 Minutes To Midnight - Iron Maiden

Kill for gain or shoot to maim
But we don't need a reason
To Golden Goose is on the loose
    And never out of season
    Blackened pride still burns inside
    This shell of bloody treason
Here's my gun for a barrel of fun
For the love of living death

The killer's breed or the Demon's seed,
The glamour, the fortune, the pain,
Go to war again, blood is freedom's stain
Don't you pray for my soul anymore?

    2 minutes to midnight,
    The hands that threaten doom.
    2 minutes to midnight,
To kill the unborn in the womb.

The blind men shout "Let the creatures out
    We'll show the unbelievers."
The napalm screams of human flames
Of a prime time Belsen feast ... yeah!
As the reasons for the carnage cut their meat and lick the gravy
We oil the jaws of the war machine and feed it with our babies.

The killer's breed or the Demon's seed,
The glamour, the fortune, the pain,
Go to war again, blood is freedom's stain
Don't you pray for my soul anymore.

    2 minutes to midnight,
    The hands that threaten doom.
    2 minutes to midnight,
To kill the unborn in the womb.

The body bags and little rags of children torn in two
And the jellied brains of those who remain to put the finger right on you
As the madmen play on words and make us all dance to their song
To the tune of starving millions to make a better kind of gun.

The killer's breed or the Demon's seed,
The glamour, the fortune, the pain,
Go to war again, blood is freedom's stain
Don't you pray for my soul anymore.

    2 minutes to midnight,
    The hands that threaten doom.
    2 minutes to midnight,
To kill the unborn in the womb.

    Midnight
    Midnight
    Midnight
    It's all night

    Midnight
    Midnight
    Midnight
    It's all night
People who don't like cats were probably mice in an earlier life.

      "I Don't Believe In Love"...

      My current mood...

"I Don't Believe In Love" by Queensrÿche
      I awoke on impact,
under surveillance from the camera eye,
      searching high and low
The criminal mind found at the scene of the crime,
handcuffed and blind, I didn't do it
She said she loved me, I guess I never knew
But do we ever, ever really know?
She said she'd meet me on the other side,
but I knew right then, I'd never find her

      I don't believe in love
I never have, I never will
      I don't believe in love
It's never worth the pain that you feel

No more nightmares, I've seen them all
From the day I was born, they've haunted my every move
Every open hand's there to push and shove
No time for love, it doesn't matter
She made a difference, I guess she had a way
of making every night seem bright as day
Now I walk in shadows, never see the light
She must have lied, 'cause she never said goodbye!

      I don't believe in love
I never have, I never will
      I don't believe in love
I'll just pretend she never was real
      I don't believe in love
I need to forget her face, I see it still!
      I don't believe in love
It's never worth the pain that you feel

      No chance for contact
      There's no raison d'être
My only hope is someday I'll forget
the pain of knowing what can never be
With or without love, it's all the same to me

      I don't believe in love
I never have, I never will
      I don't believe in love
I'll just pretend she never was real
      I don't believe in love
I never have, I never will!
      I don't believe in love
It's never worth the pain that you feel
      Feel
      Pain that you feel
      Feel

"The Blood Legion" by In This Moment
Tonight, it feels like a good day to die
Tonight, it feels like a good day to rise
        Tonight, we live

Tonight, it feels like a good day to fly
Tonight, it feels like the gods are alive
        Tonight, we turn, we ascend
        We believe our divinity

        I will not bow down
        I'll rise through the sun
        I'm transcending
        I am claiming my throne
        We are immortal
        We rise from the wraith
        We are eternal
        You are my blood legion
        My faith

        I will not bow down
        I'll rise through the sun
        I'm transcending
        I am claiming my throne
        We are immortal
        We rise from the wraith
        We are eternal
        You are my blood legion
        My faith

        We are immortal
        We rise from the wraith

        We are eternal
        You are my blood legion
        My faith
Probably my favorite lyrics ever. Feels... kinda uplifting.

          Faster - Manic Street Preachers

          I hate purity
          Hate goodness
I don't want virtue to exist anywhere
          I want everyone corrupt

I am an architect, they call me a butcher
I am a pioneer, they call me primitive
I am purity, they call me perverted
Holding you but I only miss these things when they leave

I am idiot drug hive, the virgin, the tattered and the torn
Life is for the cold made warm and they are just lizards
Self-disgust is self-obsession honey and I do as I please
A morality obedient, only to the cleansed repented

I am stronger than Mensa, Miller and Mailer
I spat out Plath and Pinter
I am all the things that you regret
A truth that washes that learnt how to spell

The first time you see yourself naked you cry
Soft skin now acne, foul breath, so broken
He loves me truly this mute solitude I'm draining
I know I believe in nothing but it is my nothing

Sleep can't hide the thoughts splitting through my mind
Shadows aren't clean, false mirrors too many people awake
If you stand up like a nail then you will be knocked down
I've been too honest with myself I should have lied like everybody else

I am stronger than Mensa, Miller and Mailer
I spat out Plath and Pinter
I am all the things that you regret
A truth that washes that learnt how to spell, learnt to spell

So damn easy to cave in, man kills everything
So damn easy to cave in, man kills everything
So damn easy to cave in, man kills everything
So damn easy to cave in, man kills everything

Sometimes its one particular verse from Red Hot Chili Peppers:

            Throw me to the wolves,
because there's order in the pack.
            Throw me to the sky,
Because I know I'm coming back.

Other times, even though people tell me its sad I like "Sound of silence" - the Disturbed cover.
Music, more often for me, its the beat or overall sound catches me more than lyrics.
"On a scale of 1 to banana, whats your favourite colour of the alphabet?"

Me too. Very often I don't even register the words, or only can understand a few words. But here's something I like. I cut a few repeated stanzas.

              "Uprising" Muse

              Paranoia is in bloom,
              The PR transmissions will resume
They'll try to push drugs that keep us all dumbed down
And hope that we will never see the truth around
              (so come on)

              Another promise, another seed
Another packaged lie to keep us trapped in greed
And all the green belts wrapped around our minds
And endless red tape to keep the truth confined
              (so come on)

              They will not force us
              They will stop degrading us
              They will not control us
              We will be victorious
              (so come on)

              Interchanging mind control
Come, let the revolution take its toll
If you could flick the switch and open your third eye
You'd see that we should never be afraid to die
              (so come on)

Rise up and take the power back
It's time the fat cats had a heart attack
You know that their time's coming to an end
We have to unify and watch our flag ascend
              (so come on)
Replace anger management with stupidity management.

                "Hate By Design"....

Very appropriate with all the crap that's going on in the world this year...

"Hate By Design" by Killswitch Engage
                Yeah!

Born into this world of hatred!

                We are born free
from the restraints of this society,
                helpless to what is instilled!
                (Yeah)
To all those who raise us, mold us, and shape us:
There is a time to separate from this!

A reason why, a state of mind,
                there's a disconnection,
                a judgement made
Fueled by hate, it's your mistake,
                it's a choice you made
                It's tearing us apart!

                Hate,
                hate by design,
                is destroying our lives!
                Seek to find
                some understanding
                Redefine your life!

                Consequence effected
in a life that is rejected,
                anger misplaced!
                A burden on our hearts,
                that's keeping us apart,
                no love,
                no understanding!

What we design is hate inside,
                a misconception,
                a judgement made
                (a judgement made!)

                It's our mistake,
                what we create
                when we lose compassion,
                it's tearing us apart!

                Hate,
                hate by design,
                (hate by design)
                is destroying our lives!
                Seek to find
                (we'll seek to find)
                some understanding,
                redefine your life!

                Redefine your understanding!
                Redefine your own life!
                (Go!)

                Hate,
                hate by design,
                (by design)
                is destroying our lives!
                (our lives)
                Seek to find
                some understanding
                Redefine your life!

                  "Open Your Eyes"...

                  "Open Your Eyes" by Staind
As I walk along these streets,
I see a man who walks alone
                  Distant echo of people's feet,
he has no place to call his own
A shot rings out from a roof overhead
A crackhead asks for change nearby
An old man lies in an alleyway dead
A little girl lost just stands there and cries

                  What would you do
                  (What would you do)
                  if it was you?
                  (if it was you?)
                  Would you take everything
                  for granted like you do?

A boy, just thirteen, on the corner for sale
swallows his pride for another hit
Overpopulation, there's no room in jail
And most of you don't give a shit
that your daughters are porno stars,
and your sons sell death to kids
You're so lost in your little worlds,
your little worlds you'll never fix!

                  What would you do
                  (What would you do)
                  if it was you?
                  (if it was you?)
                  Would you take everything
                  for granted like you do?

                  You turn away
                  You turn away
                  You turn away
                  You turn away

As I walk along these streets,
                  soaking up the acid rain
                  Underneath the taxi cabs,
I hear the streets cry out in vain!

                  What would you do
                  (What would you do)
                  if it was you?
                  (if it was you?)
                  Would you take everything
                  for granted like you do?

                  What would you do
                  (What would you do)
                  if it was you?
                  (if it was you?)
                  Would you take everything
                  for granted like you do?

Gloom, despair, and agony on me!
                    Deep, dark, depression, excessive misery!
If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all..
Gloom, despair, and agony on me!

                    Hey, you asked....

                    Also,...

Can't help it 'bout the shape I'm in,
I can't sing, I ain't pretty, and my legs are thin...
Don't ask me what I think of you,
I might not give the answer that you want me to.

                      "World So Cold"...

This song is a perfect description of what I've been going through for the last 4 years.

"World So Cold" by Three Days Grace
I never thought I'd feel this
guilty and I'm broken down inside
Livin' with myself, nothin' but lies

I always thought I'd make it,
but never knew I'd let it get so bad
Livin' with myself is all I have

                      I feel numb
                      I can't come to life
I feel like I'm frozen in time!

Livin' in a world so cold,
                      wastin' away
Livin' in a shell with no soul,
                      since you've gone away
Livin' in a world so cold,
                      countin' the days
                      since you've gone away
                      You've gone away

                      Do you ever feel me?
Do you ever look deep down inside,
                      starin' at yourself, paralyzed?

                      I feel numb
                      I can't come to life
I feel like I'm frozen in time

Livin' in a world so cold,
                      wastin' away
Livin' in a shell with no soul,
                      since you've gone away
Livin' in a world so cold,
                      countin' the days
                      since you've gone away
                      You've gone away from me

I'm too young (I'm too young)
                      to lose my soul
I'm too young (I'm too young)
                      to feel this old!
                      So long (so long)
                      I'm left behind
I feel like I'm losin' my mind

                      Do you ever feel me?
Do you ever look deep down inside,
                      starin' at your life, paralyzed?

Livin' in a world so cold,
                      wastin' away
Livin' in a shell with no soul,
                      since you've gone away
Livin' in a world so cold,
                      countin' the days
                      since you've gone away
                      You've gone away from me

I'm too young (I'm too young)
I'm too young (I'm too young)

                        Black Sabbath...

And now some more lyrics from the band that started it all... both of these are from the 2013 album 13...

                        "Damaged Soul" by Black Sabbath
Born in a graveyard, adopted by sin
I cultivate evil that’s living within
A preacher tried saving my black damaged soul
Possessed by a demon that had full control

The time it is coming when all life will end
With doomsday approaching, to Hell we’ll descend
Religion won’t save me, the damage is done
The future has ended before it’s begun

Death’s hand and the crazy, I can’t stand the light of day
Watching all the victims on their knees as they pray
God of the almighty never answers their call
Satan is waiting for the righteous to fall to him

I don’t mind dying, 'cause I’m already dead
Pray not for the living, I’ll live in your head
Dying is easy, it’s living that’s hard
I’m losing the battle between Satan and God!
"Age of Reason" by Black Sabbath
Do you hear the thunder raging in the sky?
Premonition of a shattered world that’s gonna die
In the Age of Reason, how do we survive?
The protocols of evil ravaging so many lives
                        So many lives
                        So many lives

Mystifying silence, talking peace on Earth
We should judge each other for ourselves,
                        not what we’re worth
Sustainable extinction, a fractured human race
A changing revolution disappears without a trace
                        Without a trace
                        Without a trace
                        Alright, yeah

Always felt that there’d be trouble
                        Mass distraction hides the truth
                        Prozac days and sleepless hours
Seeds of change that don’t bear fruit

                        Oh yeah

These times are heavy, and you’re all alone
The battle’s over, but the war goes on
Politics, religion, love of money too
It’s what the world was built for,
but not for me and you
                        Oh yeah

                          "Alone Again"...

                          "Alone Again" by Dokken
I'd like to see you in the morning light
I like to feel you when it comes to the night
Now I'm here and I'm all alone
Still I know how it feels,
                          I'm alone again

Tried so hard to make you see
But I couldn't find the words
Now the tears, they fall like rain
                          I'm alone again without you

                          Alone again without you
                          Alone again without you

I said, "Stay", but you turned away
Tried to say that it was me
Now I'm here and I've lost my way
Now I know how it feels,
                          I'm alone again

Tried so hard to make you see
But I couldn't find the words
Now the tears, they fall like rain
                          I'm alone again without you

                          Alone again without you
                          Alone again without you
                          Alone again without you

I tried so hard to make you see
But I couldn't find the words
Now the tears, they fall like rain
                          I'm alone again without you

                          Alone again without you
                          Alone again, alone again
                          Alone again without you

                            "The Vengeful One"...

This next song reminds me of a DC Comics character that dates all the way back to the Golden Age of Comics, and like most characters from that era, he was born from the traditions of the Pulp Fiction Magazines of the era. The Spectre is the Spirit of God's Vengeance, paired up with a human "host" who guides him in his mission to seek out, judge, and punish those who are truly wicked.

                            "The Vengeful One" by Disturbed
                            He's observing the chaos,
taking in the lack of raw humanity
It's as if the entire world's
fallen in love with their insanity!
                            Hear the innocent voices scream
as their tormentors laugh through all of it
No forgiveness for all I've seen,
                            the degradation I cannot forget

So sleep soundly in your beds tonight
Judgement falls upon you at first light!

                            I'm the Hand of God
                            I'm the Dark Messiah
                            I'm the Vengeful One
(Look inside and see what you're becoming)
In the blackest moment of a dying world,
                            what have you become?
(Look inside and see what you're becoming!)

                            As the violence surges
and the teeming masses have been terrorized,
the human predators all gone mad
are reaping profits born from their demise
The rabid media plays their roles,
stoking the flames of war to no surprise
Only too eager to sell their souls,
for the Apocalypse must be televised

So sleep soundly in your beds tonight
Judgement falls upon you at first light!

                            When you die,

                            you'll know why
                            For you cannot be saved,
                            this world is too depraved!

                              "Us and Them"...

Given the events of this week, this song, one of my all-time favorites, seems wholly appropriate. Here's Pink Floyd singing about the true source of much of the suffering we all go through. The accompanying video is also very powerful...

"Us and Them" by Pink Floyd
                              Us and them
                              And after all,
                              we're only ordinary men

                              Me and you
                              God only knows,
it's not what we would choose to do

                              "Forward!" he cried,
                              from the rear,
                              and the front rank died
                              And the General sat,
as the lines on the map
                              moved from side to side

                              Black and blue
                              And who knows
which is which, and who is who?

                              Up and down
                              And in the end,
it's only round and round, and round

                              "Haven't you heard?
                              It's a battle of words!"
                              The poster bearer cried.
                              "Listen, son,"
said the man with the gun,
                              "there's room for you inside."

"Well, I mean, they're gonna kill ya, so like, if you give 'em a quick sh...short, sharp shock, they don't do it again.
Dig it? I mean he got off light, 'cause I could've given 'im a thrashin' but I only hit him once.
It's only the difference between right and wrong innit? I mean good manners don't cost nothing, do they? Eh?"

                              Down and out
                              It can't be helped,
but there's a lot of it about

                              With, without
                              And who'll deny
it's what the fighting's all about?

                              Out of the way,
                              it's a busy day
I've got things on my mind
                              For want of the price
                              of tea and a slice,
                              the old man died
