So Kabe's and my county, along with 7 others at last update, have no potable tap water. One of the factories on the river had a chemical leak and our water company can't be sure they can filter the chemical out.

All the stores in the area are sold out of bottled water. FEMA's supposed to be bringing water and support to fix the issue. Might be hours or days to be fixed

For everyone out there, make sure you have some bottled water on hand, for situations just like this. I do.

Also for Kheldarson, I hope that you're able to get drinking water back soon.

We're going to after this. But moving into a new house and holiday retail season made some things just not click, ya know?

We're also going to a friend's tomorrow to fill up on water. Some local areas aren't affected *yet* because they don't get their water from the rivers currently affected or are above the affected area.

Just want to point out that if water isn't safe to drink, it likely isn't safe to bathe or cook with either.

Best wishes to you folks for that mess getting cleared up quickly.

When you can afford it, a rainwater tank might be damn useful. Even if you don't use it for drinking water, you can use it for bathing, loo flushing, and garden watering.

Is all the "baby" water gone too? You know those hugs that are in the baby sections of stores? Lots of people forget about those.

Also Amazon sells water too. It make take a day or two but at least you would have water.

They've declared the water safe for flushing and putting out fires. It's just everything else it's not good for.

I'll keep Amazon in mind. I didn't know they sold water.

But everything that was even remotely like water has sold out. Even the canned waters and Perrier stuff. It was to the point of people clearing out vending machines when Kabe was out last night.

Latest update though: The state of emergency help has been approved by the White House and there's one water station set up so far. Still no word on how the water testing is going.

this site sells cases of canned water with a 30 year shelf life, also MREs, of which I try to keep a case on hand in case of inclement weather, power disruption, etc.
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

In the interim, use dry shampoo and 'dry showers' to keep yourself clean.

Body lotion can be rubbed on and wiped off to rid yourself of excess dirt and sweat. Doesn't help much on stains, and leaves you well moisturised, but it works.

Baby powder or carb soda can be rubbed through the hair then brushed out to remove excess hair oil.

Vinegar or lemon juice can clean benchtops and dishes.

... I was about to suggest sun and wind to freshen up clothes, but you're probably not getting a lot of good sun, are you?

Not paired with the recent polar vortex, no, we've had no real sun. But it is near 50F today!

And the company that caused the mess finally released a statement and...

                          http://www.wsaz.com/news/headlines/F...239634321.html

I should note that they didn't contact anybody about the spill (firefighters and the DEP had to track it down by smell) and weren't even talking to the water department about what the chemical was (which is 4-Methylcyclohexane Methanol).

Fortunately, we're being told that it is being diluted, it's from 2 parts per million to 1.7 parts per million. Supposedly it should be safe a 1 part per million. So we'll see.

                            Yeaaaaahhhhhhhhh.

And Union Carbide was totally concerned about the health of the residents in Bhopal.

The president of the company did a press conference and it was...not pretty to say the least.

With a five month old son, if we can get away with it, I'm waiting until we hear they're down to the .1 parts per million where there's no noticeable odor. Or that they actually have figured out what the chemical does when diluted (that's part of the problem right now. The MSDS sheet is based off full concentration. There is NO testing of it at any dilution. And they've talked to the toxicologist who did the last batch of testing directly.)
