  • I had another weird dream...

I had a weird dream the other night that I ran for President of the United States as an independent candidate...and accidentally won. I didn't want to win. I didn't even put a lot of effort into my campaign. I mostly used my local newspaper, Twitter, and YouTube, and didn't appear at any debates.

    It was very strange.

To recap: Over the past few weeks, I've had the following strange dreams:
    • A shark almost ate me.
    • I almost drowned after jumping off a diving springboard.
    • I ran for President and won, even though I didn't want to win.

    Those are some crazy dreams!

True story. I attended a large Big 10 university over 20 years ago. I was active in student government, and even ran for student body VP once. I usually represented the dormitory that I lived in. My senior year I decided to move to an apartment off campus and filed to run as a campus representative. While there were a dozen positions, it was voted on campus-wide and there were endorsements galore and lots of heavy campaigning for the positions. I was actually the president of an organisation that endorsed candidates, and chose to endorse 12 other students after removing my own name from consideration. There were probably 70 students that filed to run for these 12 positions: maybe 50 of them had endorsements. I had no endorsement by my name, did not campaign for myself, but campaigned heavily for the candidates that my organisation chose to endorse. When the results came out the next day, I was the 5th highest vote-getter and the only candidate elected without an endorsement. Needless to say, I was very surprised. The only time in my life that I ever thought that I might actually be "popular."
