I'm having problems with fruit flies and (even worse) houseflies at the moment. I was getting some sticky traps at the hardware store (I don't usually use glue traps but for houseflies, I'm willing to make an exception).
I spotted something else; it's a type of trap that uses water and something that attracts the flies by scent.
The problem? The "scent" is that of roadkill that's been sitting under a July sun for a couple of weeks.
You add water, which both activates the "scent" and drowns any flies going to check things out. (For some reason I thought it might be a sugar solution.) It's caught a couple of flies, but my apartment is very small, which means that ... the scent has become pretty prevalent.

Going back to the hardware store to pick up some more glue traps, and I'll be getting rid of this thing in the next few hours.
