My Cat Fuzzy needs some help

Who here has worked as a vet tech or with cats for a long time?

Fuzzy has the runs. Ick.

She hurked up a wee bit of hair & spit/bile today on the floor, and came in later to cuddle/fuzz with me.

I smelled something, and she has runny poo on her back legs. Fuzzy's a longhaired domesticated fuzzbutt, so, there are times when longhaired kitties have dingleberries. But not like this. Was liquid-y shit smelly brown stuff.

She eats IAMS hairball/weight control food, dry. She is indoor/outdoor kitty, goes outside a lot and chews on grasses out there. (dunno why). Guards our stash of catnip plants.

Right now she's sleeping, doesn't seem different except for the poo.

What all would cause kitty-shits?

Maybe she ate something outside that she shouldn't have? I would call the vet, personally.

She's looking ok right now, but I'll watch her tonight.

I'm with BE. Something must have disagreed with her. Grass is supposed to help with their digestion, though.

If you can, keep her indoors for a couple of days and keep an eye on what she eats and drinks (make sure she is at least drinking. Couple of days off her food is not necessarily a big deal but more than a day without water is serious -life threatening, even- problems), and also kind of keep your eyes on the litterbox to see if the runs continue or things go back to normal. If they go back to normal in a day or two, then most likely she munched on something outside that she would have been better off leaving alone (could be any number of things, from assorted plant life to other critters). If the runs continue beyond a couple of days, then you NEED to take her to a vet, as dehydration will set in very quickly and can kill her in a matter of days.

An aside about cats & dehydration: cats naturally get most of their liquids from their food, so cats who eat only dry food tend to be more succeptable to dehydration than cats who get a diet that includes meats or canned foods.

Thanks for the tips everyone.

Fuzzy's doing good today, active, alert, eating food and drinking water like normal. She doesn't have poo stuck on her behind anymore, and is acting like nothing happened. I'm still going to watch her though.

Sarai will get like that sometimes, usually when she's struggling with a hairball. I'm starting to convince myself she has IBS, but haven't taken her into the vet to confirm yet.
