Backpocket Old Bufflehead Barley Wine. 8.7% ABV

Really dark brown in color.
Nose. hint of something sweet.
Taste. It's hard to describe the taste. It is pretty darn good, though.

Backpocket Wee Heavy. Black in color. According to the guide it's a lightly smoked Scotch ale. 8.2% ABV. Damn good thing my car is at the hotel, and I have to walk 2 blocks to get back.

The flavor is somewhat sweet. A hint of smoke to it. and I love it. damn I will be hung over tomorrow.

I was able to find a bottle of th Backpocket Anniversary Stout here. it's listed at 10% ABV, but the bartender said it's stronger.

I just had a sample of the Cane Blade IPA. It has more of a citrus smell to it. taste is more like a traditional ipa. pretty good. I would have loved to have a full one of it but at 8.2% APV, I couldn't.

Just polished off a delicious bottle of Belgian Style Tripel Ale made specially for my friend's wedding. 9% ABV. One more bottle sitting in my fridge.

Dubious Accomplishment Department:

I've mentioned the World of Beer several times. It's a chain of bars dedicated to craft beer, and they opened a location in Key West in March, 2013. Each WoB, including KW, keeps a "leader board" showing which of their Loyalty a Club members has drank the most different beers, which they update every week or two. (They can only track members of their Loyalty Club, but most regulars are members.) Since WoB KW first put up their leader board, I have always been in the top 5, ranging from 2-5.

As of the latest update to the leader board, for the first time, I am at the top of the leader board, ahead even of the two who had dominated the top spots...and whom are couples working as a team. That's right, I'm outdrinking TEAMS now. And as the bartenders there will tell you, every one of the beers I'm credited with was drank by me. If one of my friends has a beer on my tab that I have not yet had, I make a point of drinking one. I'm a purist like that.

My mother would be so proud.

Nothing against the bartender, but unless he has inside information, I tend to believe the brewery over a bartender on such things, since they're the ones who made it and all.

I would have loved to have a full one of it but at 8.2% APV, I couldn't.

A sign that I may be drinking too much craft beer: anything that's less than 10% ABV no longer strikes me as strong.

I actually have a bottle of Avery Mephistopheles Imperial Stout in my fridge. It's 16% ABV! though I've seen it on draft at 18%. Having had this beer on a couple occasions, I have a new and very simple rule about it: I only drink it at home. I've learned my lesson.

Whole Hog Scotch Ale.
Medium head Amber, almost brown color.not much nose.
Taste.there's a sweetness to it and a smooth aftertaste. it goes down really easy. considering how much strong beer I drank last night, I'm surprised I'm having a beer now, but it's a very good choice.

Great River AAAH Bock Lager.

Color. Very dark brown.
Nose. There's a hint of something, but barely.
Taste. Hmmm. there is a very slight, almost smoky flavor to it. It's ok, but the flavor isn't very strong. I might buy it again, but won't go out of my way for it. 5 out of 10.

Of course, I say that having seen his reaction to it when he was here in KW. So I may have some inside information.

Then again, I may not....he tried it on draft down here, and is buying it in bottles up there, and my personal experience is that it is far superior on draft. I was not impressed with it out of the bottle, but it is something special on draft. Of course, Vic's opinion may differ from my own.

I got a good deal on a pair of those bottle-opener flip flops at a REI store, so I put them to work on a bottle of Spotted Cow by New Glarus Brewing Co.

Wasn't totally cold but I downed it disturbingly fast. Very good, a little bit of citrusy flavor. Good on a hot day but would drink anytime.

And unless you are in Wisconsin, you won't be able to find it anywhere because it is only distributed in Wisconsin. A bar in New York actually got raided for selling it. So hahahahahahahaha neenerneenerneener.

Golden in color. No nose to speak of. Taste, well, I'm not too impressed. it has almost a skunk taste with a sweet taste. Not impressed at all. 3 out of 10.

A beer from illinois - Bent River Uncommon Stout.

color - pitch black
Nose- smells like coffee, considering it's made with coffee, it makes sense.
Taste - tastes like coffee, and there's a malty taste as well. pretty good. I'll give it a 7 out of 10. now to wrap beer to ship to Key West.
