Had my usual four-hour shift today. I bought a tea on the way in to work and had drunk most of it by the time I went downstairs from the breakroom to log on to my machine.
It didn't help.
The shift started with me repaying a very small pay advance ($20) that I'd been given a couple of weeks ago. I handed it to ... somebody ... but suddenly couldn't recall WHO.
Cue the panic.
I started asking coworkers. No, you didn't give it to me. No, you didn't give it to me. Did you give it to [Bookkeeper]?
No, I didn't give it to her.
OMG who'd I give it to???
Yeah, you can see where this is going.
I finally panicked enough to go mention it to [Bookkeeper] as I didn't want it on my record that I'd borrowed money and not given it back.
[Bookkeeper] looked at me. "[Pixilated], you gave it to me! It's all taken care of!"
She cracked up. "You're losing it!"
Me: "No, I've lost it. If you find it, let me know, okay?"
There were a few more incidents during the shift that I can't remember ATM but that opening "act" is one I'll never forget.
