Keys in Locked Office

Yesterday, I was doing office work and noticed the keys in the office and let the other desk person and front end manager know. When I was entering information in the computer which is outside our office, the door somehow got closed and the keys were trapped inside. My coworker and I were trying out different tools to get the door open. Eventually, I was sent on break and when I came back, the door had gotten open.

God, I've done that.

When I burn plates, I have to close the doors. I lock one side and live the other one slightly open. Well, I got called away in the middle of developing, so I closed the door all the way. I come back, and its locked.

We had to dig up keys and try them one by one. My boss apparently wasn't methodical about trying every one and thought we didn't have a key for it. While she was digging up a ladder and a pole, I tried the keys and got it open.

I've since figured out that when I open my door, it hits a cabinet and locks. Oh, well, we have the key, labelled, now.

Does that bring back one of my biggest lulu's!!

Managing a shoe-store, I went to the off-site stock-room just of the basement loading dock in the mall to finish logging IST's. This company was hyper-security sensitive, so the stock-room had a burglar proof door and lock, as well as a separate security system from the store. As a further step, the door shut itself (you had to prop it open).

Well, as I am sure you can tell, I locked the keys in-side. not just the stock-room keys, but the register keys, the main store keys, everything! And this was a Sunday, so I was the only management on - and my assistant was away for the weekend, and I was short a keyholder, who's keys were in the safe in my office, which was...locked, and the keys were.....

It was 1 hr to closing (4:00pm), and I had to call in a locksmith who specialised in these kinds of doors and locks, after 5:00 on a Sunday.

It took him 2 hours to break into the stock room, plus another hour to replace the doorframe so we could lock the door again. All the time, i had to keep 2 staff on overtime to watch the store, as it couldn't be locked - one of which was my head cashier who couldn't cash-out anyway because the register keys were...

Needless to say, my D.M. wasn't the most jovial of men when I faxed him the bill on mopnday morning - it took me months to live that one down, as well as the fact that the S.O.B. put a reprimand in my file.

But, that's okay, he got canned 6 weeks later, but why is subject for a whole other time!

Remeber, it's those oopsies that keep us from being perfect, and then what would the world do with us?

At my old store I forgot my keys at home one time- didn't realize it until we were ready to walk out the door for the night. My poor CSR wound up locking himself in while I went home to get my keys. Thankfully, he never mentioned it to our SM or I probably wouldn't have a job now...

Heh....the swing AM locked himself out of the office the other night....fortunately, the SM gets his scripts filled with us, so I had access to his home number, so we kind-of saved his bacon.

Yesterday, I accidentally locked the keys in the office. My coworker at the service desk ended up calling the head cashier who ended up coming in to unlock the door.

This is one reason why we need another copy of the office key onhand. Hopefully, someone will decide to have copies made soon so we won't have this problem again.

At the old store, when I was called away in the middle of doing a deposit, I would lock the doors to the office.
In the old office, before we renovated, there were ceiling tiles, so if the keys got locked inside, one of the guys was able to remove the tiles from above and crawl through.
After we renovated, and the cash office got moved, the ceiling was a solid sheet of drywall, so there was no other way in.

One night, I managed to lock the keys inside and there was quite a panic, as I had no idea how I would ever get back in.

One of the guys managed to pick the lock, but I got an extra key cut that night and kept it on my key ring, just in case it ever happened again.

I had to use the key probably 2 more times before the store closed and we moved to our new place. Now, I am not involved in any of the office stuff, so I don't need to worry.

We once had our owner come in and do one of his usual "everything you're doing is wrong! What do I pay you for??" rants. He picked up a key off the office desk, and yelled at me to ask what it was for. I told him that it was the key to the office safe. He promptly yelled at me for not having it in a safe place, and threw it in the safe. And locked the safe.(I don't know why the manufacturer even made that possible) The only key.

I could almost call this a prank.

When I was working at public television, I spent some time as a production coordinator for a show called NatureScene. NatureScene was basicaly a host and a naturalist who walked around various places showing the flora and fauna there. It was the BEST gig I think I've ever had. The crew consisted of the naturalist (Rudy), the host, the cameraman, the audiotech, and me.

Anyway, we were doing a show in NY, in the Finger Lakes area. The weather was atrocious. And instead of driving in our cool NatureScene van, we flew and rented a pair of SUV's, thus sealing my hatred of SUV's forever. These were lousy vehicles for many reasons, but the relevant detail was that they would lock about 10 or 15 seconds after you shut the door. Automatically. I can't imagine what genius in what think tank thought THAT would be a good idea, but there ya go.

We are out in the remote no mans land somewhere near BumF$%k. It's raining. After a few close calls with the door locks, we decided to make the rule that no one could close the doors on the vehicle unless they were holding the keys in their other hand.

I had the keys at one point. I went around and closed all the doors as Rudy watched. The rain was picking up. As I slammed the last door, he said nervously "uh...you DO have the key's, right?"

My manager did that once. The cash office doors lock automatically when they shut so she needs the keys on her at all times. They're on the desk, she gets called over, she walks out and door shuts; bam. Her first words were something like "Oh, sh*t." She saw the funny side, but was slightly scared of the other manager who had to come in and open it.
