So I am a huge 49ers fan. Even though I am Florida based, as a kid the 49ers were always my favorite team. Been a fan for the better part of 20 years now. I am flying out to San Francisco for the home opener vs Seattle on September 11.
My excitement about getting to go back to Candlestick park reminded me of the last time I went to SF for a game (back in 2007) where I had one of my favorite brain burps of all time.
I get to the airport and call my hotel and ask for the complementary shuttle to come and get me. They say ok and that they will be there in 10 minutes. So I wait outside near the section they tell me to wait by as that is where the shuttle comes.
Guy shows up, grabs my bags, and opens the door for me. I pop in, fasten my seat belt and we are on our way. He sees I am in a Niners jersey (Patrick Willis) so the chat begins.
D: Driver
Me: Me
D: So are you from around here?
Me: No, I was actually born in Spain, but I have lived in Florida since I was about 6.
D: Cool man. Love the Willis jersey! I take it you are a Niners fan
Me: Oh yeah, have been my whole life.
D: How did you become a Niners fan living in Florida?
Me: Well I originally lived in Pensacola, Florida which is where Emmitt Smith is from. I even went to the same high school he did, so the area is just super pro Dallas. I never liked Dallas, so I decided to side with their rival. My family is from the Bay Area so they told me I should be a Niners fan, so that is how it happened.
D: Awesome man, glad to hear you are supporting our team out east. How was your flight?
Me: It was great. It seemed like a long one, but I am surprised at how quickly I got here.
D: How long did it take you?
Me: A little under 2 1/2 hours
D: 2 1/2 hours to fly from Florida to California?
Me: Yeah pretty amazing. It seemed a lot longer.
D: You do realize you changed time zones and are 3 hours behind Florida time right now, right? So if you are using your cell phone as your clock, it is now getting the Pacific time signal................
Me: Oh. Right. I knew that.
D: I promise not to tell the girl at the front desk about this conversation
Me:
Thanks.
