  • Is the amount okay? No.. I mean yes.

A few years ago I shopped at Fred Meyer most of the time (aka Kroger in the east and south), so I'd learned certain habbits when it came to checkout time.

Swipe card, enter pin, hit 'no' for cash back, hit 'yes' for accepting total.

I drove across the state on business one day, a long, exhausting drive. I decided to refill my perscription as part of the trip, since I knew there was a Fred Meyer Pharmacy in the city I was visiting.

I droped my bottle off on the way to the office, got my work done, then stoped by on the way out of town.

At this point, I'd gotten up over an hour earlier than I usually do, driven for 3 hours, hauled around, squatted, and crawled to move computer equipment, and not yet had lunch, so I was not firing on all cylinders.

I go to pay for my perscription.

Oh, right, no cash back at the pharmacy. I appologize and the cashier restarts the debit transation.

Thankfully, I got it right on the third try after forcing myself to read the screen for each prompt.

Ugh, I've done stuff like that, too. I was exhausted, and I went down the street to a grocery store I don't normally frequent. For some reason, it was asking for a PIN for my credit card (which doesn't have one). I kept hitting either "clear" or 'cancel" when I was supposed to hit the other. After the second try, I gave up and just used my debit card. I was too tired to think or do anything smart.
