Good News Bad News

The good news:

My assistant, whom I dearly love and is a friend as well as my right-hand man, has been promoted and transferred to another department. He well deserves it, and has earned it, and I'm happy for him - it's a lot more money, and he's a single dad.

The bad news:

My assistant (see above) has been promoted and transferred.

Bad in that you miss him and now need to find another assistant?

Yep. In the one sense, anyone *could* replace him, but ...

He and I just hit it off immediately. Even when he came for his interview (which was just for a general position, not the one with me), we hit it off. It's rare these days to have a co-worker that you're just SO comfortable with. He'll still be in the same building, but I well know that once someone changes departments/duties, their priorities change and it just won't be the same.

On the other hand, I'm just so happy for him I could bust! He really deserved this, and it takes him that much closer to his ultimate career goal - in addition to providing extra income towards his studies.

Can you tell I'm conflicted??
