When I worked at Bullseye we didn't have any background music any time of year. Now my year I worked at Kohls we did. It got irritating really fast. I love Christmas music but Now that I'm retired I can play it or not at home when I want.

22 years ago I worked on Sundays as a cashier at a DIY chain in the UK whose name consists of initials and an ampersand. I still feel stabby when I hear Paul McCartney's Wonderful Christmastime and am reminded of the tinniness of that piece of crap over the tannoy every 45 minutes.

English is a VERY strange language. I gather the "T" in the name of that piece of electronic gear is silent, just like the "C" in an alternate term for "hip-hop" is silent.

My restaurant + my radio = no Christmas music at work. The only time you'll hear it on my radio is when the talk station starts using Christmas bumpers, at which point I turn off the radio for a minute to get through it.

Heck, I can barely listen to the South Park Christmas album.

I was in the grocery store day after rememberance day and they played a song twice that just had some guy singing " jingle bells. Jingle jingle bells " for two minutes straight . I was only there 10 minutes and wanted to die. I feel for you poor workers .

When I was working in a thrift store, I coped with the muzak (how many different arrangements of "Frosty the Snowman", etc., even need to EXIST?) by playing Bob Rivers, Tales From the Crypt's Christmas album, etc., on the way to and from.

They upgraded our music last year so our selection is a lot better than past years. It used to be some off brand Christmas junk, very light on the classics and about 20 versions of Wham's Last Christmas. No, just no.
I would have a nice day, but I have other things to do.

Where I work the only time there is music during my shift is if I load up Spotify, and then it's whatever music I personally want to listen to. Christmas music? Hell, no. I barely tolerate the season as it is.

My desk is in the front lobby of a building, so anything I listen to has to be sedate-ish. Bleh.

In the old days I had to deal with a playlist that included "Somewhere in my Memories" 6 times in a 30 song playlist.

They started the holiday music at work, but it isn't too bad. It's actually one seasonal song per every 3 played, with our regular music the rest of the time. I still think the lobby music is too dang loud but that's just because I'm the old and crotchety one (well except for my coworker who has a 17 year old daughter).

I have 'Yay!' Christmas songs and 'Aaarrgh!' ones - I adore Roy Wood, so when The Wizzard's 'Wish it could be Christmas every day' comes on, I'm delighted. However, when Macca's 'Wonderful Christmas Time' comes on, especially after already hearing it half a dozen times, the red mist starts to descend...

And the one I'd really, really love to be played in store - but never, ever is - Is Bo Selecta's 'Proper Crimbo'.

The PTB added a link to our computers so we can all listen to the same Christmas music in our cubes. Its not too bad, I can hear my co-workers music, but its not loud enough that I have to pay attention.

The first day, everyone but a couple of Grinches were playing that damn stuff. Fewer and fewer people played it as the week progressed and on Friday, I didn't hear anyone playing it.

I have a yearly tradition for shopping. I go out of my way to visit stores that have displays of motion activated noise makers at lunch. I don't buy anything, I just shut off all of the toys. If I have time, I reverse the batteries so they aren't as easily turned back on.

This is actually a great way to get coupons and discounts. The poor cashiers are often so grateful that a customer shut those @#$^ noise makers that I could probably ask for and receive a foot massage.

If you folks have time to do this for our fellow retail drones, it makes them happy and probably improves our personal karma

My boss has many fine qualities. Understanding computers is not one. He wants Pandora or Spotify for music, but he hasn't gotten the knack of programming. He does...something...that causes us to hear different versions of the same song playing several times a day. It's like an audio "Groundhog Day." On the plus side, his son, who is a musician, has come on board to help out this month. Things may be looking up.

Where I used to work in the pet shop, there was an entire shelf devoted to dancing Santas. They were sound activated so every time someone went past coughing, talking, tapping with heels etc, the whole damn shelf would spring into life.

Honestly, it's not healthy to be entertaining fantasies of murdering Santa, but that's how every employee at that place felt after enduring those bloody things all day. In the end, after the first couple of days of this, given that the Santas were technically within my bounderies, I went to the shelf and took out every set of batteries, which I then gave to the staff on the front tills. From that moment on, every time a customer bought one of those demonic creatures, they'd be given a baggie with the batteries inside.

I am proud of myself now. I shared my holiday tradition with my boss who told me that it was a wonderful idea and that he was totally up for it. (He used to work for a store that had their own "radio" station that played a total of 4 songs between the advertisements all day long.)

Today, at lunch, I went to the nearest store with noisemakers and they were all quiet. The cashier, who had seen me before called me over and told me that someone else had shut them off about 10 minutes ago. When I described my boss, he told me that it sounded like the same guy.
