  • 45?!

So I'm busy looking for another job, I applied to many different ones in the suburb I'll be living in. I even applied as a dog walker at a daycare. Now I've walked 15 dogs at one time before and and I told the interviewer so. But she said that I'd have to walk 45 dogs, large breeds at the same time by myself! Um what? I noped out of there tout suite. I imagine that I'd have to be a strongman to handle 45 large breeds. Or they'd be walking me! So was she just pulling my leg? The ad said no experience required. Was it one of those liar ads? The girls working there didn't look like strongmen so maybe the dogs knew them well....

45 dogs at once? Even 15 is ridiculous - how would you even fit the leashes in your hands? A lot of municipalities have restrictions on how many dogs someone is allowed to walk at one time (to clamp down on overcommitted paid dog walkers) - 3 is a common number.

I'd check with municipal licensing to see how many dogs you're allowed to walk at once - would help to filter out shady places that expect you to break the law.

Also, be sure they don't expect you to be a Colt Walker.

So funny story, I used to send my pup to Doggy daycamp to get social skills, because we want d to make him the kind of dog you took to the library or hospital, but not the service alert type dog. He was the dog they used to test other dogs to see if they were mellow enough to hang out. One day I overslept and decided I would rather have a warm pup cuddle with me than get up and take him in at 5:30 am. They had 40 dogs that day and the trophy shop 2 doors down caught fire. They had to evacuate 40 dogs with 3 people. It took several trips. 45 at one time? Bad idea. The dogs struggled and got tangled and some got loose, luckily none got lost. The fire dept was less than happy and told the workers to "leave the dogs." As it was the kids at the daycare 2 doors down had smoke inhalation, if they had left the dogs there would have been a lot of dead dogs. I was so sad when they closed. They were a great Doggy daycamp, just not able to keep up with the rising rent on their space.

45 dogs at once? So far from realistic that the light from realistic won't reach it for another 30 years. But, devil's advocate here, are you sure the interviewer didn't say four TO five? It would sound an awful lot like 45...

With those numbers, my inner cynic thinks they asked for inexperienced people on purpose, as anyone with experience would tell them to Go Fish!

I've had a weird day. I read this thread, and my brain went--

              "My girlfriend walked 37 dogs!"

That's why I repeated back to her "For TEE FIVE?!" and she said "Yep. And you have to clean up after them too." I used to have a GSD and he used to poop like a monster, so I was imagining 45 poop cakes to clean. And then she said, "And if they start fighting, you have to break them up by yourself with your BARE HANDS." Well, that's a lawsuit waiting to happen. I wish them all the luck cuz they'll need it! :\ Probably make me scoop the poo with my bare hands too. Glad to know that I'm not crazy to think 45 is too much! They people really EARN that 7.25.

Well, they were small breed, and their leashes were tied to each other, so if one pulled, the weight of the others would hold it back. But they were a real handful anyway. I don't know how anyone would be able to handle 45 on their own...extra long dog sled team style maybe? Jk
