  • Haunted Kmart!

So I guess the Kmart store I work at is haunted. The store was built about 37 years ago so it's a bit old. Who the hell would wanna spend their afterlife at Kmart? Here's some weird stories a co-worker was telling me today..

    - My manager didn't tell me about this but she told my co-worker. I work in the cash office, and one morning it was just me and my manager in the store.. the store was locked because it was not yet time for it to open. My manager was doing something in Layaway and I was doing my thing back in the office, and my manager heard a woman scream inside the store. She went back to the office to check on me because I was the only person who could've possibly screamed in the store.. but it wasn't me.. I was just working away like normal. She told my co-worker it creeped her out big time! I guess my mgr. didn't tell me at the time because she didn't want to scare me? Or she didn't want me to think she was crazy, perhaps.

    - The overnight crew has a lot of problems with merchandise mysteriously getting thrown off the shelves, with no one in sight. They're pretty adamant about the fact that they think the store has a ghost(s).

    - The jewelry department manager felt something hit her on the leg while she was out in the store working on something. She thought a customer had thrown something at her.. but she looked all around and no one was anywhere near her.

    - Both me and the office manager have experienced this while working back there. We'll hear someone knock on the door or yell for us to buzz them in.. and we go to let them in and no one is there.

An interesting factoid.. a man committed suicide in the alleyway next to our store about 20 years ago. He had just bought the gun at Kmart prior to killing himself.

Creepy stuff! Anyone else have any ghost stories about their workplaces?

The bakery people come into work around 3am and as they work they always see the shadowy figure of a man standing at the doorway watching them

I've felt something grab my leg a few times and footsteps after the store has closed and everyone has gone home but me.

Heard from a regular customer at the gas station (but knowing the caliber of people who shopped there, they were probably lying) who told me that a guy shot himself in the head in the parking lot.

Years ago before it was a mom and pop gas station. Guy was in an OJ Simpson type police chase, he pulled over into the parking lot and shot himself in the head.

Never had any ghost stories, but we do have merchandise that just jumps off the shelves. Usually it's the mass market paperbacks that are faced out...especially in summer the humidity gets to them and they tend to expand and then they refuse to stand up straight. A bunch once fell in the middle of the night and set off the alarm...the manager was not happy to get that call...

Not a K-Mart, but there is a Toys R US in California - Santa Clara/Sunnyvale area- that is haunted. The story is that a boy drowned in a pond on the land before it was developed. He plays with the toys and there are cold spots in various areas of the store.

I worked there for a couple of summers, but I never got a chance to see any of the strange things going on. I would love to have TAPS go in and see what they could find there.

At my current building, no ghosts, but the previous two buildings I don't miss. Too much stuff going on, to a lot of people.

And ghosts/spirits/whatevers seem to really like me. That gets really old, really fast, especially when they keep dropping the temperature to about 55 degrees F.

I'm convinced the 'Lounge is haunted. I'll be standing at the register or making coffee, or am just generally all the way across the store, and I would swear that I could hear the back room door opening and closing. Of course, I'm the only one in the store and the door remains closed.

The rumor is that the guy that owned the house that is on the land (it's now a salon) killed himself.

Actually, the ghost is of a man by the name of Johnny Johnston, a preacher who was a caretaker on the property when it was still an apple orchard. He died from a leg wound.

Oh, and I just want to point out that the age of some of these haunted buildings don't matter; it may be the LAND the ghosts are attached to. Really, most of the time they don't know they're dead.

The kindest thing anyone can do for these poor lost souls is to basically tell them, "Go toward the light, you're dead! Go home!"

Think of all the emotional energy that flows around in a store. Kids screaming their heads off and throwing tantrums, customers acting horrible and causing a lot of problems, sometimes screaming their heads off and throwing tantrums, Conflicts between employees, conflicts between employees and managers etc. If there was a spirit it might be drawn to that sort of energy-rich environment.

There was one really weird thing that happened. One time a couple of customers started screaming because their credit card was declined, and were being completely unreasonable about it. I had to call the CSMs who got screamed at and then they had to get the manager who got screamed at. The manager walked away and the people were still bitching so I had to call her back and she got screamed at some more. I heard a POP above my head as they were screaming at me again and the light at my register blew out right then.

I know it could have been coincidence but I felt at the time and still feel that it was all that energy blasting around.

I used to work in a huge old Victorian building in the civil service. It had had various government departments there over the years. It used to be very eerie at night time but I never saw or heard anything, just felt weird. I heard stories though, especially from the staff who did night shifts.

My work place has no hauntings whatsoever. I don't know of anything in the immediate area, either.

Although I did live in a house that had something. My brother and I shared a room and we were 4 & 5 at the time. We were sitting across from one another on our beds with the lights out playing some basketball type game in the dark. He had the wastebasket we were using as a basket in his lap and I had the wad of paper that was our ball. As I was preparing to throw it, this white-ish blob of light floated between us and scared the bejeezus out of us both. I think it took me less than a second to be off the bed and have the lights on.

Nothing really happens ot our resturant, but seeing as how we're only open till 2 in the afternoon everyday, we don't really get a chance to see anything happen. Soemtimes, though, we'll have a ton of pens missing or some silverware that none of the employees see for weeks, then they mysteriously return to were they are supposed to be. We'll close, come back the next day and the chairs will be rearanged.
The upstairs used to be a storage room, but we're redoing it for more dinning space(kinda a teen hang out) and one night, our boss askes a couple pf us waitresses to come up and help sort all the decorations we have into boxes and put them into the other rooms. Well, we took a break and were all down stairs eating some pizza when we heard footsteps upstairs. We all looked at each other like, huh? cause no one else was up there. Since i was the ghost freak and loved to watch Ghost Hunters, they volunteered me to go up and take a look. I didn't find anything, so now I'm the only one willing to go up there any. Yay for me.
