  • SC = Sucky Collections Agency

This happened to me on Wednesday. Please move it to the appropriate forum if needed.

Backstory: My ex left me in a bit of a financial bind. I owe money because of her. I'm now able to pay what's owed to some of the collection agencies. I called one particular company earlier this month to get the exact amount owed, mailing address, etc. I then told them I would be paying the full amount later this month.

Forward to last Wednesday. I'm working my job, being my happy self. Break time arrives, and I head to my car to check my messages and to call my daughter. I see that I have 2 new voice mail messages. Both messages are from said collection agency, and were placed 5 minutes apart. It's an automated message, telling me that they want their money, and they want it now.

I call them back, and finally get a human. I tell them that I called earlier this month, and had everything in place. She asked me 3 times how I wanted to "take care of the amount owed." I told her that the information should be noted on my account that I was paying the full amount of Friday. I then hung up after verifying my information again. Then I get back to work.

It's now lunch time. I get into my car and check my phone again. Two more voice mails from them. I call them back. Repeat what happened not two hours ago. Different person this time, though.

I pull into my driveway and my phone rings. It's them again! I'm starting to get a little peeved, but I stay calm. Again, another repeat conversation, I'm paying the full amount Friday, blah blah blah. Then I ask her to PLEASE make a note in my account that I will pay it, and to stop calling me. I tell her that this is the fifth call I've received from them in about a 4 hour period, and that she is the third person I've talked to that day about the same account. Hang up and eat lunch.

The day comes to an end. I go home, get out of my sexy city uniform and change into normal clothes. I get into my car and drive. I'm going to get my daughter and spend some time with her.

I'm on the road, and I get yet another phone call from this company. I answer the phone with "You know, this is the SIXTH call from you guys today. Stop calling me, or I'm going to file a complaint for harassment!"

"Yes, sir. I know that, and that's why I'm calling. My name is Miss So-and-so, and I'm the supervisor. I'm calling to apologize for the number of times we've called you today. We had a computer glitch, and the notes for your account weren't added."

"Well, okay. But are the notes on my account now?" I ask. "You're the 4th person from your company that I've talked to today. "

"Yes, sir. You're account has been noted, and you will not receive any more calls from us. Again, I apologize for the excessive amounts of calls today."

I thank her, and hang up. True to her word, I haven't heard a peep from them since Wednesday evening. Friday I sent out my payment.

Thank God I don't have to deal with them again.

You know, as nice as it is to be told "we won't call you anymore" I think saying it with silence would have been the better option...

Had that happen to me before.

They keep calling me during all hours of the day. They were calling about someone else. That person gave them a fake number, which happened to be mine. I told them to stop calling me. Did they stop, nope. The called just about every 6 minutes, to get me to pay. I told them, that I am going to file a report of harassment on them. They stopped after that. Crap, reminds me now, I have to call about my repo, I had. I want to try to start getting that paid off

        True. Very true.

But that would kinda make sense.

Reminds me of a prank from the days back before caller ID. You'd get a bunch of friends together and call someone asking for "Joe", when there was no "Joe" at the victim's house. Keep going for at least a dozen calls in a few hours, until the victim starts sounding pissed. Then have someone who hasn't done any of the calls before call up and say "Hey, this is Joe. Anyone call for me?"
