  • On the Job Hunt: The ArenaBoy Version

For those who don't know, I quit Whiskeyclone due to idiot management, a VERY annoying customer (Expensive Dinner Man), customers and the fact that they were in cars (Gives them more confidence), quirky hours, and just a change of scenery.

I got a job with a family friend's construction company but the problem is that there is very few projects to do as of late so this means no money for me. I started job hunting everywhere and so far I applied to B&N, Borders, 5 Starbucks, a Caribou Coffee, 3 Gamestops, 2 EB Games, and a grocery store. This was all but a week ago. I may give these places a call or drop by and check up on it. My best chance so far is a Starbucks that I am really hoping to get for these reasons: 1. A 2 minute drive to my school. 2. A 10 minute drive from where I currently live. This Starbucks needs help and the days they need help in fit my schedule but I haven't heard back from them yet.

I don't want to work in arenas again because of the hours and the nearest big ones are in the middle of Detroit and I don't like driving down there.

I'm starting to consider applying to restaurants now, Jester and anyone else who are restaurant workers can you give me some good points on restaurants and is it a good idea for a student?

*Sigh* It's times like this that I wish I applied to some little store in the middle of nowhere instead of an arena.

Restaurants are an excellent job for a student, due to their general flexibility of schedule and their willingness to work around student schedules.

Keep in mind, though, that if you have no experience as a server, some places would hire you to start out as a busser or a barback. Busser sometimes is good, sometimes isn't. Barback, in a busy bar, can be serious buckage, though definitely a lot of hard physical work.

If you have more questions, PM me any time.

Good luck on the Starbucks job, Arenaboy. I had a great time working in the cafe when I was younger, and I'd still be there if the Scheming Bitch Manager From Hell hadn't back-stabbed me in the face (yeah, I know, but that's what it felt like) and gotten me fired.

If you can't get a job as a server at better establishments, then Friendly's or Bickfords or something along those lines will def help you out. They have such high employee turnover that they pretty much take anybody with half a brain. So you are pretty much guaranteed a job there, and if you can hack that job for a few months, then anywhere will take you. It's a good stepping stool for servers that can't get hired elsewhere. I recommend the dishwashing job. It's fairly easy as long as you keep up with it, you don't have to deal with the nasty customers, and they might have you buss if it gets busy enough, but it's a super easy job. I wish you luck!

Checked up on Trader Joe's, another place I applied to as of late. They're looking for help and I have a friend who works in the store that I'm applying to. Things are looking up for me.

Oh, good luck with that. My brother got his job, at Trader Joes, because he had a friend that worked there already. He'd had it for over four months when he ceased being a thorn in my side, which is a record for him, so it must be a pretty good place.

              My patience is waning.

*SCREAMS* WHAT THE HELL?! I applied to a certain green apron chain and it's great for me as they're in the middle of everything meaning it's near my school and my house and they also said that they needed help. I had an interview with said green apron at a new opening (job fair) last week and they said they'd call me in a few days. I don't know if I'm growing impatient or if they're just going through interviews but come on! I'm getting sick of sitting by my phone waiting to hear from them.
