  • Spoiled dog food and other delights

So on last night's truck we got in two pallets of overstock free goods, which is basically stuff the DC can't send out to the stores for some reason, so they palletize it and send it to our store, which got selected to recieve this junk because our clientele is cheap by necessity or by choice, and will hunt for any bargains they can find...

But I digress. Anyhow, we were unpacking the pallets of overstock after finishing the truck, when suddenly we were hit with a stench of biblical proportions. It was coming from a bag of dog food that had gotten ripped open and must've been exposed to lots of air and water. It was squirreled away under some other items and the entire pallet was shrink-wrapped, so it's not as if the bag got ripped open and the contents spoiled en route. And instead of throwing it away, the DC decided to send it to us to sell.

That thing stunk up the backroom something terrible, and the manager wouldn't let us toss it right away because he wanted to get a camera and take pictures to send along to the DC. Plus nobody wanted to get close to it or touch it.

This is one of the many reasons why I say the people at our DC are like a bunch of drunken brain-damage victims, only not as clear-headed.

Let us know what the DC says, if anything.

They probably just aren't thinking. Just throw the items on the truck and make them fit, and once the truck gets to the store it's their problem.

Until the store ends up sending it back to damage reclaim. Now it's their problem again plus they've pissed off a shipper-receiver.
