  • Job Hunt Rant (Advice needed)

So it's nearing the end of July and still no job. As you know I applied to a certain green apron made fun of in a Lewis Black sketch and I was interviewed and have checked back every week. They have said that they need help but are still going through applications. I'm getting frustrated, even though I have plenty of money left over books are going to take a huge chunk out of that. My question is, should I be persistent with the green apron checking back once a week (Which I've been doing for the last 2 weeks) or just give up and try another location? My one problem and worry is that when I am in Toronto they'll call when I'm on vacation.

Thanks for the advice in advance!

apply to as many jobs as you can:

You want a 40 hour week? then spend 40 hours a week searching.

Pound the pavement. Apply to as many places as you can. Flood the Motor City with your applications. Post your resume online, such as Monster.com and other places.

Then have a great time in Toronto. That place is awesome.*

It probably wouldn't hurt to leave your cell phone number on the applications. That way if they call you during your vacation, you will actually get the call, and you'll be able to explain the situation to them and be able to schedule your interview/start date/whatever for when you return to the Hand State.

I would say flood your ap & Resume out as much as possible. With what you've done there's also the ability to work security if you haven't thought of it before. My wifes cousin owns a security company and my brother in law works for him. From what I've seen the ability to stand up to asshats is a key component. And you've proven that working at the asshole arena.

I would still keep bugging the manager at the end of the earth Thats how I got my first job. I kept going back so the manager hired me just so he wouldn't have to see me come in every week and ask him if he had anything yet (I lasted 3 years and he laughed about it all the time).

            Mini update

I leave for Toronto in 4 hours and in the past few days my school and everyplace else within my town have been flooded with apps. Hopefully I'll get a call.

You know what's going to happen, don't you?

After this desert period, you're going to get ten phone calls for ten different job interviews on the same day, and then you'll get offered all these jobs and not know what to do. Feast or famine.

Good luck, don't worry about it when you're gone, and have a great time in Toronto. The weather has been beautiful here.

                Back

While gone 2 places called me so far, an interview with a place known as Costco and a local grocer based in a college town in my state. Oh and Toronto was loads of fun.

Oh man, I hear Costco has great benefits. I'd prepare extra hard for the interview and dress up.

                  Good luck on finding something.

For the interview part, I've always dressed up for interviews, even for my one with the green apron, which I'm still waiting to hear FROM.

As for finding something, the SB thing is at the top of my list but that may change soon if I don't hear from them. They had a job fair at their new location and I saw a list that said that they needed help at this store. So far the SB thing is at 85% but I've been checking back. As for Costco, my interview with them is on Wednesday so I have time to prepare.
