  • Let's try this again..

As some of you know, back in December I applied for an IT position with my company. I was offered the job and accepted. They wanted me to start Jan 1, but my supervisor wanted to keep me an extra month to train some new techs. Eh, I wasn't happy but so be it.

I was given an offfer letter (in writing) and accepted it (in writing). Late in January, I was called by the hiring manager stating that due to cutbacks they wouldn't be able to hire me onto the team. (insert yelling and screaming) but she said that if they did get the position open again, they would try to get it to me if I applied.

I know my company's level of ethics and I knew it wasn't the best promise since they seemed to have hired on another person in the past few months.

This past week I noticed that they reposted the position. I swallowed my ethical pride and applied for it, it's still a good opprotunity. Friday, I got a call from the hiring manger that she wanted to offer me the job (again) with the same pay, bonus, etc.. that I was offered back in December.

My new start date is going to be August 18th, let's hope it stays that way this time. (This means i'll be pseudo-out of retail. I won't be dealing with our external customers, only internal customers).

Thanx, I know I'll have a lot to learn, and I'm not the best with change, I'll miss being a big fish in a big pond where I am now to a very tiny fish in a big ocean.

I was supposed to start Aug 18th, but my (current) supervisor wants me to stick around an extra two weeks, so I start Sept 1st.

This is EXACTLY what happened last time. Also, considering the pay raise, this two week delay is costing me $200.

Do you HAVE to stick around just because your supervisor wants you to? Or can you just say no? or will that cause other problems?
