  • New job description

Starting next week, I'm going to be responsible for all the store's ebay/amazon/other online order stuff. Strictly a back-office job and from what I gathered the hours are fairly flexible (no more sketchy night shifts). I'm hoping I will still be allowed vacations if notice is given far enough in advance (the ebay/ama stuff I can monitor from wherever I am anyway, the only thing I'd be wondering about is the ability of other employees to follow shipping instructions if I'm not present).

The mixed-use news is that the pay is strictly commission. That might not be a bad thing once it gets off and running, but Amazon can take a while for things to move and ebay can be feast-or-famine, more of the latter if the seller has low FB and is trying to move both large quantity and/or expensive items as we would be (I believe Ebay themselves will come down on you if they think a low-FB seller is selling too much in a given period). He doesn't want a week of big sales followed by a week of no sales, I tried to explain that that cannot be guaranteed especially if we're just starting to build things up.

I'm going to ask him if he would be willing to do base pay (doesn't have to be the full rate I was getting) plus commission. I need some guaranteed money coming in.

Many places do a draw against your commission. You get base pay, then are paid any commission amounts above and beyond that. You're expected to make enough commissions to cover your base pay. It's a big help if sales can be up and down.

I don't think he's ever handled something like this, so I may need to discuss the concept of base pay with him. I'm on the payroll afterall and still need to be compensated for the time spent listing, packaging, etc.
