Ya know, I don't think I could celebrate Christmas with a beer in my hand sitting by the pool. :-p

Well, Christmas with a beer in my hand would be ok. Not sure about the pool.
You'd be surprised how damn easy it is.....

Went into Lowes last Sunday to set up some new countertops for my kitchen (finally! Yay!) and decided to treat myself to a new plant for my already-plant-filled cube at work.

Standing in their "garden department" in shorts and flip flops, with a thin sheen of sweat sticking my tshirt to my skin, with the hot sun glaring down on me, all the while surrounded on all sides by Christmas crap was weird and unpleasant. You don't want to see hot afternoon sun glaring off tinsel and snow glitter while a bead of sweat is running down your spine, it's just incongruous and unsettling.

        Gaaah.

I found a fishtail palm for 10 bucks, though, so it wasn't a total bust.

          X-Mass at MY store!

My store played the following songs last year:
Adam Sandlers The Hanukkah Song (1&2)
A rap version of Rudolph the red nosed reigndeer
Grandma got runover by a reigndeer
The Barking Dogs version of jingle bells
They haven't released the play list for this year yet.

P.S. If anyone can find the words to "I saw Daddy kissing Santa Clause" please let me know. I haven't been able to find the words, and haven't heard it since last X-Mas.

P.S. If anyone can find the words to "I saw Daddy kissing Santa Clause" please let me know.
I saw daddy kissing, Santa Claus
            Underneath the mistletoe last night
He didn't see me creep, down the stairs to have a peep
He thought that I was tucked up in my bedroom fast asleep

Then I saw daddy tickle, Santa Claus
Underneath his beard so snowy white
There must be some mistake, was I really awake?
I rub my eyes and moved in close up, better look to take
            Then I..then I...hey..hey!

Then I saw daddy hugging, Santa Claus
He took his hand and pulled him to the couch,
It must have been just fine, Santa didn't seem to mind
Then daddy moved across the room to pour them both some wine,

Then I saw daddy fundle, Santa Claus
And on his beard he nibbled now and then,
I crawled across the floor, I hid behind the door,
I left it open just a crack so I could watch some more
            then I..then I..then I...then I..

Then I saw daddy undress, Santa Claus
They quickly threw their clothes on a big chair
Well much to my surprise, I couldn't believe my eyes
It wasn't Santa after all but mommy in disguise

But I saw daddy kissing Santa Claus,
            Underneath the mistletoe last night
Oh what a laugh it would it been,
If I had really seen daddy kissing Santa Claus that night..!!

            My google fu is strong.

What is exactly the problem here? Christmas music is wonderful to hear, even if the middle of October is a bit early for it. Just think of people that work year round in Christmas stores. At Disney World, they have one in the Magic Kingdom, and I remember the lady that worked there who said it never bothers her to hear this music each and every day. In Cherokee, North Carolina, I visited a Christmas store in the middle of June, and the music was playing. Now, imagine not only having to hear the music all year long, but to see it Christmas all year!

                That's frightening. Ouch!

The problem is that christmas is supposed to be special. If it were special all the time, it would be mundane. A week-long event is something you can look forward to. A full season - as in about three months of something - is just something that's going to happen.

Not everyone shares your rosey view of the holiday tunes. Some people don't like to hear it constantly, some don't like to hear it so soon before the holidays themselves, some don't like the repetition of the same lame old numbers, and some people just flat out don't like Christmas music at all.

Remember, you think it is wonderful. I am sure there is a style of music you despise, but that other people love, and if they hear you complain about that music, they honestly can't imagine "what exactly the problem here is."

It's never safe to generalize and assume everyone agrees with you, whether you are talking about music or anything else.

These people choose to work in these stores. If they like it, great.

As an analogy, I live in a town with the original Margaritaville Cafe, and have known many people who have worked there. Many of them got sick of Jimmy Buffett music real quick. Many didn't. Myself, I don't think I'd mind it, but I can understand if you were hearing it every day all day why you might not be a fan anymore!

That's what I'm saying. I like Christmas music...well, I like GOOD Christmal music, anyways...and I'd like to continue to do so and enjoy its specialness. I can't do that if I become sick of it.

in the Green Bay area there is a station (the Breeze more like a bad fart IMO) that will play nothing but Xmas music from the first week in Nov till just after New Years.
I think XM Radio also has an all-Christmas station. Not sure if it's started yet (or even if it does stop). If I have to hear "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmastime" one more time...I find a lot of the seventies Christmas-pop a bit creepy. The classics can be nice, but not 850,000 times and certainly not before Halloween.

My personal Christmas music like-list runs toward the strange...Weird Al, Tom Lehrer, Chipmunk Christmas, etc. I used to have the meowing-cats carol album but I think mom got rid of it.

I always wondered if the people who worked at Alice Cooperstown ever got sick of Alice Cooper's tunes...

I think you'd like Dr. Demento's Christmas CDs. I tried posting the links on here but it wouldn't let me, for some reason. Just go to amazon dot com, type "Dr. Demento" in the search engine, and you'll see several CDs, two of which are Christmas ones. I have one, and it's great fun.

Exactly, so don't generalize and assume everyone hates Christmas music as well.

I love Christmas music of all kinds, but I still prefer to keep it in the holiday season, and not in the middle of October.
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.

                              I absolutely love Christmas music.

Which is why I don't like hearing it at work in October. Because by the time the holidays come and I'm actually in a festive mood, I am entirely sick of it and no longer play it at home.

Retail has sort of robbed me of that aspect of enjoying the holidays.

If you have to ask, it's probably better posted at www.fratching.com

Nothing is wrong with Christmas music, in and of itself.

Again, the problem I have with it is having to hear it and nothing else from Thanksgiving or even a couple days before, all the way to Christmas Eve.

I wish we'd do like we did one year and keep playing the normal muzak, but with a Christmas tune or two thrown in every now and then for variety.
