  • No hours, no reason. Just cause he can.

I am so seriously pissed off now. I go into work today to see if I have to work tomorrow and to pick up my check. I get there, and my co-workers just look absolutely tired and ragged. And I quickly learned why. Myself and 2 other co-workers were not scheduled today. And me and A, we'll call her, are not scheduled for either tomorrow or the next saturday. Now, i can not figure out why this is. Our manager is always complaining about not having enough people to work, and yet he gives us whole weekends off, and not the others, who deserver it way more. I was going to call him when T. tells me he's out of town for the whole weekend and has said not to call him for anything, unless the building is burning down.
So, I'm already pissed as it is for losing the only two days he gives me to work in the first place. My mood worsens when I get my check cashed. Turns out, its only $15 dollars. According to the little slip it has attached that explains taxes and how many hours I have worked, it says in the hours slot that I worked 3. This does not add up. Last weekend, I worked both Sat. and Sunday, 9 to 2. That is 5 hours each day! I have no idea wtf is going on, but if I am off all weekend again next weekend, I'm giving my 2 weeks notice. I am tired of all the confusion and unanswered questions. I may be only 16 (17 next week mind you), but I need money too. And $15 dollars will not last me 2 weeks of gas, food, and school combined. This is ridiculous!

You need to talk to the manager about that check. Maybe there was a computer glitch in the timekeeping system or something, but they should have a record of the hours you were scheduled for, and if they don't make up what they owe you that is against the law. (And don't let your age come into it...if they owe you money, they owe you money.)

Sounds like whoever is doing the scheduling doesn't quite have their act together...

Hey, you could always set the place on fire and then you can call the manager...of course, that would really cause your hours to be cut...never mind.

    Good luck

I once checked a payslip cos my pay was $15 short. (I didn't bother checking unless the $ deposited to my account didn't match the # of hours I worked.) Turns out the timeclock was altered. I'd worked 6 hours before a dinner break, when it's only legal to work 5 hours with no break, so I should have been paid double for that last hour. But they'd changed my break to an hour earlier, so I missed out on $18 (yes, that was my hourly pay at Maccas for 1-5am).

When I told a manager, he actually told me he'd add an hour's pay to my next paycheck. Didn't happen. That combined with only getting scheduled for overnight shifts caused me to look for another job. I actually got an interview the week after and quit the week after that!

Good luck getting your money and a new job!
