  • Back to Lowe's

I went back to Lowe's today, as a shopper. First time I've been in there in about 4 months. I went back in to brag, basically. Government job, paid day off, and wanted to rub some noses in it! LOL But I also needed some stuff.

The first thing I notice when I get inside is how shabby the place looks. Very dreary.
But it could be that it was getting dark outside. Or they are just letting the place go downhill. Either way...

The second thing was that I didn't know anyone there. It's only been 5 months, and the only person that I saw, that I knew and worked with, was busy with customers so I couldn't go talk to him.

So I wander around, trying to find starters (or ballasts) for a fluorescent light I have. They moved them. I wander some more, looking, wandering, looking, wandering.
Hmm.. you would think there would be someone in the electrical department. Then I remembered how it was back in the day; there was probably one person covering 4 departments. Ahh, that makes sense. That was probably it. But I found them (but the light fixture still doesn't work. Time to replace it!).

As I am walking down the main aisle, I notice the lack of red vests in the store. I see many customers, but no workers. Oh yeah.. Its Monday, and a holiday, so the store must be running with minimal staff. I did, however, notice 4 managers standing up at the front, laughing at something.

Well, it was nice to see some things haven't changed. Also, pretty sad.

Sounds like what my dad sees when he goes back to the Home Depot he used to work at. He worked at the HD for a short time while he was between employment at places (he's a mechanical engineer and no stranger to being laid off). I think one of the few people he knows is one of my brother's friends who happens to work there. At least he's one familiar face we can usually count on being there.
Suddenly, Vermont became the epicenter of the dystopia.

my moms friend just got promoted to area manager or whatever they call it at Blowes, the times I've been in that store(it's where I used to live, but I go back for vacation) it seems to be a lot better than yours

I've found that doing this is very rarely wise.

Why? Are they going to put me back to work? LOL

Why rub anyone's nose in anything?

If you're really out to create enemies, by all means go for it. But unless you want people to see you as a braggart, maybe you shouldn't.

Well... Being happy and sharing it is one thing. Being angry and promoting jealousy, even to people who desperatly deserve it, rarely gives you anything but a quick thrill. It usually puts you into contact with people you are better off avoiding, and feeling emotions that you left behind.

Negative people + negative emotions rarely produce anything positive. If you hated it there, you are better off just heading to Home Depot and avoiding the place.

I'm with CrazyAl and Fashion Lad: Returning to your old workplace just to brag yourself up isn't a good idea. You don't know if some people have all their marbles.

Unless you're prepared to deal with ex-co-workers slashing your tires or waiting for you outside your new job. And those are things I can do without.

Not to mention you might need to fall back on your old employer if you lose that good job. You don't want to nuke your bridges there.

                  ahh.. I get ya.
The people I was going to see are friends that I still keep in contact with. I bug them all the time on MySpace and whatnot to get out of there and come work with me. We have the openings, we need the people.
They were happy for me when I got this job, and they are unhappy there as well.
I was going in there to get them off their butts and do something about it, and basically just to see them and say "Howdy."

I wasn't going in there to brag and belittle them, or make them feel bad. One guy (he's 20) that I used to work with is a hard worker, smart, and actually cares about his future. He wants benes, retirement, etc.
I've been trying for months to get him over the the plant to become an operator. He would be great at it, and wouldn't have to worry about becoming full time or not.

                  Ah well.
