Warranty or repair service DOES NOT MEAN free upgrade service
Um, well, in the case of computers, I could see why they would want an upgrade. It seems to me that everyone who doesn't know anything about computers is convinced that their machines are *obsolete* the second after they buy it. I'm not quite sure where this misconception came about. True, they are usually not buying the highest quality, and therefore do not have the latest and greatest technology, but that does not mean their machine is obsolete. Technology isn't advancing that quickly.
As for everyone else, they probably think they are entitled to an upgrade just because they had to deal with the pain and torture of having something break on them. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a repair or replacement of an item, and a free upgrade if the original item is no longer available and the broken item is warrantied but unable to be repaired. But then again, I'm not an SC, so I don't know how that mentality works.

The Office
People in my line of work think that the phone repair maintenance plan means they can have upgrades done to their phone lines, and/or have new jacks installed. I once told a customer that it's not called the phone installation plan.
Well, one of the camera chains in my area does offer a service that will replace your camera if it isn't reparable with the current equivalent. So it's kind of an upgrade.

I got the same spiel when I bought my Xbox 360 with a two year warrenty. If it breaks in two years and is unreparable, they will replace it. Since I bought the Halo 3 Special edition, if it is no longer available when my needs to be replaced, they will give me the equivalent or greater 'special edition' in exchange.
I wonder if hammer damage in one year and 364 days counts? Just kidding... *looks shifty*
