  • Great, bought concert tickets and now...

Bought concert tickets back in August for a late December day. They were part of a presale too, so that means really sweet seats.

Fast forward to the beginning of November. I checked my vacation calender and the flippin' floor manager blacks out all the days in December!

Which means no vacations could be taken. She also blacked out half of January.

I talked to my direct boss about it and he said I can do a day swap and that would be no problem. But I wouldn't put it past the floor manager to deny it and if that's the case, for the first time since 1997 no concerts for me.

Just call in sick. Nothing they can do about you being sick, is there?

As much as I would like to do that, there are two things that make that impractical:

1). Sick days are unpaid and also, missing a day would affect my hours requirement for my weekly bonus.

2). My company has been known to fire people for calling in sick because their vacation days got denied or blacked out.

      I'd rather swap a day.

They did that to me last month, and almost again this past weekend. Since you have to buy them so far in advance, I ask for it anyways and just have them make it my regular day off. Last month, they forgot and I got to come in late to close (cause she couldn't read a request off right....) and this past weekend, they switched my days off.

Making you work anyways is just mean IMO. You're not asking for a vacation, you're asking for a day off, which they're giving you anyways. :P

Exactly what is so important that no vacations are allowed from now until the middle of January?

If I'm not mistaken, the OP works in a call center, but I'm not sure what they handle.

Any chance you can arrange to be scheduled so you have that day off anyway? Other than that, work for the swap, its all you have at this point.
