Yesterday, when I was working on closing 2 tills, one of the closing checkers, who also works in produce, told me that I had a customer. I left the cash room and went to the service desk and asked the 3 customers what they needed help with. It turned out that they wanted to return a bunch of snacks. I informed them that the service desk was closed and that they could come back the following day but one of them pointed out that the store itself was still open.
I got the service desk drawer out of the cash room, opened the till back up, rushed through the return, and the customers got their money back. The customers said that they appreciated me accepting the return even though the service desk was closed. They left and I re pulled the till and went back to the cash room with it. Luckily, I hadn't counted the cash in that drawer yet or I would've had to start over.
My closing duties got delayed further than normal because of that late return. I ended up leaving about half an hour after I was supposed to.
