When supervising children on a playground, the one sound you never want to hear is 'THUD' *silence*
'THUD' *scream* is bad, but *silence* after the thud is very very very bad. We had a child have to go for a CAT scan the other week when they fell off the slide and landed head-first. We're still not quite sure how they managed that, as it shouldn't be possible the way the slide is constructed.Arsenic is 'natural'. Hemlock is 'organic'.

I gots a few...
Working at Burger King you don't want to here, Oh Fuck, the office trashcan is on fire. - Yup someone dumped the still smoldering ashtray into the trashcan in the office and it went up in flames. Needless to say smoking was banned in the office after that.
Working at the summer camp, Everone down to the stone lodge, theres a fire in the creek bed. - Yup our tweaker maint man had removed the spark arrester from the weedwhacker and started a fire, in a mountain area (less then a acre burned, and I found out that the fire retardent has a nice lemon smell too it after the nice firemen spray it everywhere).
Working at a copy shop in a office building, Holy fucking shit (we cursed alot here) the fucking tree next to your trucks on fire. - Some one tossed a lit cigarette in the mess of leaves under a palm tree and the leaves caught on fire. It was a eucalyptus tree, the tree itself didn't actually catch fire, but the leaves where flaming up on the ground around it. I ran out and grabbed a fire extinguisher from the main hallway and put it out myself before the fire department got there. My damn lungs hurt for a week after that.
and as a parent one of the sounds you don't want to here, in the middle of the night. Daddy, I peed. - ah crap, time to change the sheets and matress pad at 2 in the morning. But this has only happend once or twice in the last 4 months, he's gotten so good about not pissing his bed (6 yrs old).
and lately for the wife and myself we don't want to here anyone calling saying that "We just had to take mom/dad/grandma to the hospital" Yup in the last month, my MIL has been to the hospital twice, once for calcium deposits (massive pain) and once for a blood sugar crash (hit 47). My grandmother has been in twice for major blood presure spikes (in the range of 200+ over 100+) and my dad was in once, he had an arythmia passed out and broke his leg, he was in for 5 days. So its been a shitty month for us.
Now a sound I would love to here, OH MY GOD WE JUST WON THE LOTTO. (Yeah a man can dream cant he)My Karma ran over your dogma.

From my coworkers: *all together* When working at the grocery store, the one sound we never want to hear is Princess singing Epiphany from Sweeney Todd. This always means that someone has made her extremely pissed and we had better stay away from her and hide the razors if we value our lives.
From my sister: When working on my homework, the one sound I never want to hear is bzzzt. This means that my calculator has died on me and it will take me untill 3am to finish my math homework."But I don't want to be among mad people."
You can't help that. We're all mad here. Every fucking one of us.

You don't want to hear-
8THUD thuthudthudthudCLATTERTHUD' as it means someones dropped a tote down the stairs.
You also don't want to hear 'whY ISN'T THE TILL WORKING!'. Ever.Deepak Chopra says, "Fear deprives people of choice. Fear shrinks the world into isolated, defensive enclaves. Fear spirals out of control. Fear makes everyday life seem clouded over with danger.

This is from when I worked as a farmhand on a dairy farm for a few seasons; You ~Never~ want to hear 'Sploosh Glugluglugluglug Foomp!'
Long story short, the other farmhand Knocked over a full jerry can (about 30+ litres) of Diesel fuel next to a hot emergency generator. Needless to say, the Fire extinguishers were broken out and emptied post-haste to save the barn, 400+ head of cattle, and so on.
The day after, my workload doubled. Feel free to guess why.

In the kennels, you never want to hear growling and squealing. That means one of the dogs is getting their butt kicked and you better get over there FAST and break them up. And get out the doggie disinfectant.
*sigh* we had a nasty fight the other day, usually you douse the dogs in water and the quit it, but these guys were really going at it. Thank goodness only minor injuries.

When working at a service station with an automatic car wash, the one sound you don't want to hear is the fire alarm in the car wash.
(I wasn't there at the time but heard about it afterwards. Apparently some idiot took his ute through there with a bicyvle in the tray. The brushes picked up the bike and it got jammed in something, the brushes stopped moving and something overheated. The worst part was that the SC demanded a new bicycle.)

When working with a till, you never want to hear 'crash, tinkle tinkle tinkle' as that means your till just fell on the floor and your change is now all over the floor. That actually happened to me yesterday.
When working anywhere near a kodak picture machine you never want to hear silence, because that means that it's out of ribbon or paper, and no matter how you refill it, it's gonna take a half hour to get running again.

Quoth Igorina View PostWhen working in the lab, the last thing you want to hear is:
a sudden silence followed by the stand by beeping of all the equipment (power surge!)
a quiet 'oh S&*^'
Even worse: When you hear the *bwaaaaahhhh* and it isn't followed by the discordant and out of sync beeping of all of your UPS systems.

While working at a renaissance festival or anything similar, you don't want to hear the phrase, "Carbon condition."
Because that's the way you yell "fire" without freaking all the patrons out.
This is especially true when you're guild is one of the live powder guilds that does shooting demonstrations.
