  • Miss Work because of Clock Change?

Anyone get to sleep in an hour later because they "forgot to change their clock?"

    ...I didn't...but I wish I had.

Do you think that's a valid excuse? I still have an hour to change my mind.

I'd say it's a viable excuse; I've spent most of the morning telling guests (haha, posting from work!) that the clock's have been adjusted an hour ahead and reminding them to set their watches or they'll miss their flights.

"Gosh, boss, I didn't know the time changed last night!" (psst, my boss told me it's usually in April that the time changes. I have no idea but whatever.)

Haven't shown up late before, but did almost leave early once.

My alarm had auto-updated but not my cell phone, nor the clock on the wall at work, and at work, I usually went off my cell phone and that clock.

I clocked out, saw that noone else was moving, realized my mistake, and quickly clocked back in lol.

I think it was just last year that they changed the dates for DST start/end, so I think a person could realistically "get away with it," though really you could only be an hour late. Not even that really, as they're likely to call you and go "Hey! You're supposed to be here!" Good thing I saw this thread though, because my computer and cell phone autoupdated, but my alarm clock and watch had to be changed >_<

Starting in early March is an experiment thought up to see if we saved addtional energy by an earlier start, and is supposed to run another few years. I think it's stupid: no problems with doing it starting in April, since I like the extra nighttime light... but waking up before sunrise doesn't save any energy, since you turn the lights on in the morning. And possibly forget to turn them off during the day.

We've had signs up all over the back of the store reminding people to change their clocks - signs in both english and spanish. Along with one next to the time clock.

One of the assistant department managers showed up 20 minutes late today and blamed the time change though! Specifically, he said he uses his cellphone for an alarm clock and the time hadn't updated yet. Maybe a good reason depending on the service provider, I know my Sprint phone updates within 2-3 minutes of a time change though.

A few other people showed up late because of it, but c'mon people.. there's been signs all over the store for a week.

I showed up late 2 times before, because of the change. It was a valid excuse. My phone didn't auto-update. Wonder why?

My alarm clock is controlled by the time from Rugby, so I can never use it as an excuse! (Boooo!)

I actually forgot to change my clock last night so when my alarm went off at 630a this morning for me to be at work by 8, it was actually 730a.

This is probably the one and only time I was thankful for a blizzard. I was able to use that as an excuse for being 1/2 hour late instead of the true excuse - that I forgot to change my clock.

Not this year, thankfully. It happened last year to SO. But his work is pretty lienent about it. His manager just laughs at him, tells him to stay after to make up the time and everything is cool.

It's the general manager of the store that's an ass about it. He wanted to write up SO last year for it, but his manager refused to do the write up. After all, if he was going to write up SO, he'd have to write up everyone else in the store too - 8 total, and most of them were his favorites, only cause they kissed his ass.

Of course, the GM just waved it off and muttered that he'd better not let it happen again.

Did I mention that the GM does not like me because I won't let him intimidate me when I go into the store? I've had him tell me that he's going to throw me out for some imaginary thing. I've told him to go ahead, and I'll be calling my lawyer when he does. Apparently he's told SO that he needs to put me on a leash. SO just laughs and tells the GM that I chew through the leashes.

Yeah, I suspect he's trying to make up for a lack of something.

                    Sorry for the hijack.

                    DDD: Cuz it's cool

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

I thought mine (a verizon phone) would update automatically. Did everytime I changed time zones (which is often) but it didn't register the change until I "rebooted" the phone around 6:30 this morning.

Last fall, I had to book it to work without washing my hair or shaving because my alarm clock set itself back an hour a week early (I have one of those "smart set" alarm clocks")

Fortunately it was a short shift--5 am to 9--so for the most part customers were spared me looking like a bum.

It never fails....I never remember DST. My cell phone changes the time on its own.

I woke up today at 6 and thought "Why is it still light out?"

I'm sure I'll leave work tomorrow morning at 7 and wonder "Why is it so dark out?"

I, too, have one of those alarm clocks. I wonder if you can call the company to see if it can fix it so it changes at the new dates?
