  • maybe we should stop being so mean?*some language*

so one of my co workers(we'll call him CW1) has a crush on a cashier, and he freaks out so easy that we really can't help but play pranks on him. so I see him talking to another co worker(CW2) and walk up to them

CW2:*to CW1* we told *cashier* you like her, and she said she wants to talk to you
    CW1:*getting all happy* really?
CW2: yea, you better go talk to her
CW1:*walks off to go talk to her*
CW2:wow, I feel kinda bad, was that fucked up?
me:yea, but so funny that it cancels out the fucked up

then next time I saw CW2, he said that CW1 went up to the cashier and said "they said you wanted to talk to me?" and she laughed at him

and then last week my schedule was weird with just getting back from vacation, so I got south park season 2 before work, and when I went to put it in my car he's like "what the fuck are you doing?" so we're going to make him think I just stole a car(my parents' car) on saturday

Sounds like high school crap to me that takes place in the work place.

High school crap is some of the best kinds of crap. At least they got the kid to go talk to the girl, kind of.

Awwww - poor kid. That was mean.

Makes me ashamed that I used to be the kind of little bitch that laughed at sweet boys who tried to talk to me.

Yes it is. I had people doing that all through high school AND after high school.

It was like 'hey anne, this guy wants to make love with you, durr durr durr."

I dont see this very funny.

It is mean, but it did get him to talk to her. But it is high school crap, that should be left at High school. And there is no need for it in the workplace.

This is the same as where I just came from,

Okay, got that out of my system. That was kind of mean, but you got him to talk to her, and more importantly the really mean part was her laughing at him. I think that if you're just picking on him to be mean, that's just uncool. But if you are friends, and everyone picks on everyone, then that's just how it is, no problems.

It is kinda funny, although a bit mean. Sorry if I sounded grouchy. I guess it just brought back memories of what a little snobby shit I was in high school.

And hey, you are in high school. Live it up.

                        "Mean" humor is just that.

IMHO, I agree with the poster that said that High School behavior belongs in High School and has no place in the workplace. I mean, we are all trying to make a living in the retail industry, or working our way through school, etc., and we don't need mean spirited people using their "humor" making it harder than it already is.

Mean humor, to me, is just that: mean. All too often it is taken too far, and eventually a person who subscribes to this kind of humor eventually "picks on" someone who is sensitive, thin-skinned, or just mean as hell, and not in a funny way. Thus, this person gets reported to Mgmt. and gets in trouble, or worse gets their ass royally chewed or even kicked by that person if it's the last example.

I have a sense of humor just as much as the next guy. But, I feel that humor in a friendship or a relationship can and should be used to build up and strengthen the relationship. "Mean" humor tends to do just the opposite. Even if it's a group of friends who do it with one another, you can bet at some point one of them is going to have a bad day, and another is going to make a mean joke or crack which pushes a button, and s**t is gonna fly.

I really don't have any tolerance for rumors and juicy gossip in the workplace, as I think we're too old for that.

However, I will admit that my coworkers and I do dish the dirt and rant and rave on break and at the bar and when we go out to breakfast. We do make fun of people, but we don't do it at work and we never taunt or tease anybody. We keep it to ourselves.

Well, to be quite honest, neither was junior high school.

                            Feh.

I dunno, guys, I was kind of crotchety even then, I assure you the years have not made me more fun or lighthearted.

Yeah, I'm one of those people who thinks the high school carp should stay in high school.

A workplace is usually a place of business, and unless you're good friends, this sort of stuff is really not appropriate.

As an example, some people at my work were pulling this sort of stuff (it was all friendly) and one of them ended up with a worker's comp claim. And they all got written up.

                              Yeah. Lots of fun, that.
