  • The real reason he got fired

I had made a thread about a friend of mine being fired cause he had coffee at the register. & the replies that I got said that there must be more to this story than meets the eye. That's how I felt too.
So the other day I FINALLY found out the real reson why he got fired. It seems that when someone cashed a payroll check that he would give them back the check as well as the money for the check! He was told constantly that when you cash a payroll check that the check goes into your till & NOT to be given back. He kept doing that no matter how many times he was told not to. So they had no choice but to fire him.

Uh.... that's the most shocking thing I've ever read.

And I've had people contact me for support wondering if a button labeled X did X or not.

Sorry to sound dumb, but since he gave them their check back, along with the money, does that mean they were able to cash that check again somewhere else??

Assuming he never put the check into the till, it was probably never stamped with the store's endorsement stamp, so, yeah...in theory, the people would have been able to present the same check someplace else and get it cashed twice.

In theory, it might be possible IF the register didn't stamp it.

Yeah, there's not only the possibility of them being able to cash the checks twice, but it probably plays merry hell with the finance department, wondering where the hell that money was going, as they had no record of the check to verify.

                    Wow... just, wow...

How could this guy not understand it after the first time of being warned?

How could this guy not have been fired after the first time his till was short by $100 or more. (It being payroll checks, I assume they were $100 or more)

This right here is why I hate that Wally World gives back the canceled check to the customer after it's been run thru the register. I'm willing to bet that the friend just did not understand that the payroll checks must be kept, or he did not understand the difference between the two types of checks.
Everything will be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end.

That would be really difficult, seeing as the process used for payroll checks is completely different than the one for personal checks for purchases. And I can't buy that he didn't understand they must be kept after being repeatedly told to do so. Either it was a complete and inexcusable brain shortage, or he wanted to get fired.

Personal checks at WallyWorld are just having the accounts billed ...

Not keeping the payroll checks. Not the smartest move ever. Definitely deserved the can if he ignored warnings.
