  • Hersheypark:Orientation

Today I got a call from Hersheypark to arrange for my orientation. It's gonna be on Monday morning for 4 hours. PLUS I also have a wardrobe fitting for 2:00 PM on the same day. So all this means I'll be back to work real soon! Woo Hoo!

Pardon a potentially stupid question, though...why would you need a wardrobe fitting?

The company supplies the uniforms that we are required to wear in order to work at Hersheypark. I think we get a set of 3. So we attend a wardrobe fitting in order to get uniforms that fit. Wanna make sure I'm comfy doing my job.

Are you going to be starting work before the park opens? On one of the clean-up crews or something? It's fun to work in the park when it's still empty.

Amusement parks make you try on the uniform to be sure it fits correctly - what it is, is that they don't want you going a size too large and having a baggy uniform (usually something guys try to get away with) or going a size too small and having your uniform be too tight so you can attempt to look sexy (usually something girls try to get away with). The first park I worked at, we had to try on our uniform and then model it for the wardrobe staff so they could approve it

Most amusement parks have wardrobe fitting for park members, regardless of department. Unless it's a very basic uniform (such as the dress I wore while doing ROP at Knott's Berry Farm), you get fitted.

I'll be working from 5 in the morning to about 1 in the afternoon. That doesn't bother me one bit. So by the time the park gets swingin' then I'll on my way home for the day...lol.
I'll be part of the clean-up crew. I'll be picking up trash, sweeping, mopping & other cleaning stuff. I picked that job specifically so I don't have to deal directly with sucky customers. I had my fill of them in the almost 3 years I worked at Wal-Mart.
So in the off chance that I do deal with a sucky customer & they get nasty then I can turn around & walk away. I won't have to be stuck in one place like I had been when I was a cashier at Wally World. Being a cashier at Wal-Mart you were at the mercy of sucky idiots.

                Oh, that's cool.

I wish I had uniforms that fit well.

Hee, I actually meant are you going to begin working before the park itself opens for the season? Like pre park-opening work crew? Because I know the park doesn't open until May (save for a weekend in April).

But that schedule that you have, 5-1, is an awesome schedule. You're exactly right, by the time the park really starts to get busy, you'll be out of there! Or else you could stay and ride and just hang out, if that is your thing. My favorite time working at an amusement park was always very early in the morning, when it was quiet and peaceful and calm. Plus, you won't have to deal with the extreme afternoon heat. Sounds kind of perfect.

Ah, yes. I'd almost forgotten the wardrobe nazis from King's Island. Make sure you read the regs carefully, especially about hair. It was a much happier day when I moved to moneyroom, where we could wear whatever.

Good luck on the new position!
