  • Drunk Shoplifter

Yesterday, a customer came up to the service counter wanting a cab. A couple of my coworkers saw a package of ham sticking out of the customer's pocket. My service desk coworker was calling the police while I stood guard at the service desk. The night crew manager came in, saw the ham, along with a few other items, and handled the customer.

The night crew manager told my service desk coworker not to bother with the police. Since the customer was drunk and had no idea what he was doing, the night crew manager just let the customer go.

So being drunk is now an excuse to steal. Cool! I'm sure that will go over well in court.

Oh man the drunk shoplifters are the best! They have no clue that their "stealth" is the equivalent to a dwarf in plate mail saying "I'm being sneaky"

I always preferred phoning the police when I had a drunk shoplifter, just watching their faces drop that tiny amount when the realisation sunk in.

Now when I hear on the radio that a drunk shoplifter has been detained, my heart sinks just that little bit!

Yeah but if anything happens after he left the store the victims can sue the store for not stopping him. When we have a drunk leave the store we have to make sure that they are not getting behind the wheel and if they do we have to notifiy the police. They should have just let him cool his heels in jail for the night.

If the customer had been throwing a fit, the police probably would've been called or he would've been told to leave. By the way, the customer left in a taxi.
